Pesach Sheni

The 14th day of Iyar was designated by Hashem as a makeup day for people who were impure or far away from the Bais Hamikdash and therefore could not offer the Korban Pesach on the 14th day of Nissan. It is our custom not to say Tachnun on that day and during Mincha of the preceding day. Some people have a custom to eat matzah on Pesach Sheni. This year Pesach Sheni will beMotzai Shabbos, May 2 andSunday, May 3.

Lag B’Omer

The 33rd day of the Omer is referred to as “Lag B’Omer.” This year Lag B’Omer occurs Wednesday evening, May 6th and Thursday, May 7th. It is a day of happiness for a number of reasons. For example, the students of Rabbi Akiva didn’t die on this day. In addition, on Lag
B’Omer, Rebbi Shimon Bar -Yochai revealed many secrets of the Kabbalah to his students before he passed away. The laws of mourning that we follow during the Sefira are observed until daylight of the 33rd day of the Omer, Thursday, May 7th.
