What is SGA?

SGA stands for Student Government Association. SGA provides a representative form of government for the students of Edinboro University. SGA represents the interests and concerns of the student body in order to enhance the quality of student life; SGA officially recognizes and allocates an annual budget to various organizations on campus, while sponsoring campus-wide programs and activities.

What qualifications do I need to be a congress member?

To be qualified as SGA congress member, you must be a current student at Edinboro University, and maintain a minimum GPA of 2.3 (expect for first semester freshman applying). You may not have a disciplinary record with the University.

What responsibilities does a SGA congress member hold?

As a congress member, there will be a number of responsibilities and duties you will be required to perform:

First, all congress members must attend the weekly SGA congress meeting and you must join and attend at least one SGA committee lead by an executive board member. Next, all congress members must attend both SGA Development meetings held twice a semester. Third, all congress members must attend at least 2 SGA Events and 5 events held outside of SGA. Lastly, to have fun being part of a wonderful organization!

What are the personal benefits of joining SGA?

Joining SGA provides plenty of benefits for its members.On top of being introduced to a plethora of people and opportunities that other students may not be presented with, SGA has a variety of individuals who make the organization a blast to join! Members will also gainfurther insight on all that Edinboro University has to offer. During SGA congress meetings you will have the opportunity to learn about events changes and activities on campus you never know about before. We hope that our congress members take pride in the fact that they have a say in decisions that affect the whole university!

When and where is this packet due?

This SGA application is due on Monday February 3rd at 8pmat the Pogue Student Center Front Desk or the SGA Office located on the 2nd floor of the Pogue Student Center.

What happens after I complete and turn in this application?

After you turn in this application you will receive an email from us requesting an interview and telling you what’s next in your quest to be part of SGA. Thank you for your interest in joining!

Requirements of being a SGA Congress Member

1. Attend SGA Congress Meetings held Mondays at 6pm in the Pogue Student Center Multi-Purpose Room B (If you can not attend Congress meetings you must join two committee meetings)

2. Join and attend at least one of the five Committee Meetings

3. Attend both SGA Developments/Retreat

February 9th at April 6th (Time and Location TBA)

4. Attend at least 2 SGA Events and 5 Events hosted by a Club/Organization (Event cannot be hosted by you or an organization you are a part of, you may not use an event for both categories, event must be university sanctioned)

5. Attend one of the four SGA Mock Meetings (This is where you would learn Roberts Rule of Order)

6. Maintain at least a 2.3 QPA

7. Have NO Disciplinary Record

Interview Times

Once you turn in the completed congress member application, you will be emailed to have an interview to be a SGA Congress member with one of our executive board members. This gives us a chance to know you more! Please check off the times you are NOT AVALIABLE for an interview on Tuesday February 4th, Wednesday February 5th, Thursday February 6th and Friday February 7th. Please make sure to consider class times, work, etc. We look forward to meeting you!
