Description of Service / We are a CAMHS mental health service who see young people age 14 – 18. We are a (tier 3) multi disciplinary team comprised of all the professional groups. Student nurses in our team are involved with assessment, referral, care planning and admission.
Other areas of interest and related experience available / Students are strongly encouraged to visit local voluntary and stator services. No Limits, Childrens Services, Barnardos etc. Students also work within the local school and will visit GP surgeries to see and assess young people.
Work/Shift pattern / Monday – Friday 9am – 5pm
Dress/Uniform code / Smart casual
Staff room / Rest Room facilities / Various, explained on first day with team and discussed at induction day.

Welcome Folder / Induction is usually run for each placement by the mentor. We have induction pack specific to their locality.
Student Tutorial / Seminar Programme (if available) / None that are formalised. All learning undertaken with staff. We do have team lunch + presentations and team training and our students are invited to attend.

Common assessments / interventions / procedures / treatments / evaluations / We have a range of assessment/questionnaires which are completed at assessment and during the young persons contact with our service.
Common conditions seen / Anxiety, Depression, Deliberate Self Harm, OCD, Phobia, Anorexia + other eating disorders, Psychosis, ADHA, Autism/Aspersers, PTSD, Mood Disorder.
Specific areas of expertise/clinical skills which students can observe / learn from / Practice / There is opportunity to join MDT meetings, assessments, reviews, home visits and visits to school. There is opportunity to join network meetings with external agencies which might involve discussions about risk and safeguarding issues.
Students will be involved in CPA’s and visits to hospital.
Students are encouraged to become reflective practitioners and to understand various case formulation and participate in the structuring of letters to various professionals.
Due to the complexity of the casework students will not have their own caseload and will work alongside their mentor and other Team members.
