Sermons In Genesis 5- THE FALL THAT STARTED IT ALL Genesis 3

Intro-There is an average of 55 Murders per day in America. Every 14.6seconds a home is burglarized. World Wide there are approximately 40 Million Children under age 15 victims of Child Abuse. (World Health Organization 2001) Every day 2800 Teenagers get pregnant. Every 26 seconds an abortion is performed. That’s 3288 per/day. 1.2 Million per/year. (American Life League report Aug. 27, 2009) On and on we could go! How did it get to this point? What Started All the chaos?

We now come to the Pivotal chapter in the Bible. In chapter 1 we witnessed a Beautiful Creation. Chapter 2 we witnessed a Beautiful Couple. In chapter one we read concerning creation, and God said It Was Good 6 times. And in (Genesis 1:31) And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. If everything was so good, How did things get so bad?

Genesis 3 marks the Birthday of Sin! Genesis 3 tells of the Fall of Man. What did man fall from? He fell from Dominion to Death! He fell from Innocence to Guilt! He fell from Fellowship with God to Fear! “Man fell in the garden and he has been falling every since”! The Path of Sin is a Downward slope. Genesis 3 tells of The Fall That Started It All. Romans 5:12-Wherefore, as by one mansinenteredinto the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:

I.THE COMMAND BEFORE THE FALL- (Genesis 2:16-17) 1- Adam was Given A COMMISSION Genesis 2:15- And the Lord God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and keep it! (Adam was to be a Gardenera Guardian!) God gave Adam something to do! Adam was given a Specific Task & a Sacred Trust!Men were made to work!

2- Adam Was Given A COMMAND
Genesis 2:16-17 And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:17But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

3- Adam Was Given A CHOICE- obey God or Disobey God!

II. THE CAUSE OF THE FALL (Genesis 3:1-6)

A. There Was DECEPTION 1- Notice The Mask of The Devil- He comes to Eve under the guise of a serpent. It’s interesting to note that the serpent appears 3 chapters from the beginning of the Bible. And he disappears 3 chapters from the end of the Bible. The Devil is a master at deception. Revelation 12:9 calls him “the Devil that decieveth the whole world”.

The word “subtle” means “wise”. The being that Eve was up against was a powerful match! The Bible says of Lucifer before his fall, that he was”full of wisdom” (Ezekiel 28:12). But Eve had the one thing that could have allowed here to overcome the Devil. She had the Word of God.

2- Notice The Methods of The Devil- a. Satan opened the discussion witha DOUBT.“Yea, hath God said? Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?” He was attacking the AUTHORITY of God’s Word! Since the very beginning, the Devil has been attacking the Authority of the Word of God. Let’s forget about Doctrine, let’s just have Church! Let’s avoid the controversial parts of the Bible and major on singing & having a good time!Verse 2-3- Eve added to the Word! (God’s Word doesn’t need any help… it can stand alone!)

b. Satan followed up with a DENIAL. “Ye shall not surely die” This was a complete contradiction of what God said to Adam. God said “for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt SURELY DIE.” He was attacking the ACCURACY of God’s Word!

c. Satan then followed with a DELUSION- “ye shall be as gods” The word “gods” is translated “Elohim”. Means you will be just like God. Is this not the same thought that entered into Lucifer’s mind and caused him to rebel against God?“I will be like the most high God” (Isaiah 14:12-14)

B. There Was DESIRE- It all started with Listening, then with a Look that led to a Lust that led to a Leap! This desire was fueled by the same 3 things that tempt you & I. Notice in verse 6- And when the woman SAW that the tree was good for food (Lust of the Flesh) and that it was pleasant to the eyes (Lust of the Eyes) and a tree to be desired to make one wise (The Pride of Life) she took of the fruit thereof, (James 1:14-1514But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.15Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.)

C. There Was DISOBEDIENCE-“she took of the fruit thereof and did eat, and gave unto her husband with her; and he did eat. They Disobeyed God! That One act of sin has caused tremendous heartache and bloodshed! That one act of taking of the forbidden fruit has been the cause of Death, Divorce, and Division. It has brought on War and Wickedness. It has been the downfall of man. SIN! And it carries with it a HIGH PRICETAG!

III. THE CONSEQUENCES OF THE FALL

A. It Brought SHAME notice: 1- Their SIGHT- “And the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked,” Before the fall Adam & Eve were covered with light. The same covering God is covered with. Psalms 104:2“Who coverestthyself with light aswith a garment…” 2- Their PLIGHT- “they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons. An attempt to cover up their sin. The clear fact that we wear clothes today is to cover up our sinfulness. 3- Their FLIGHT- Genesis 3:8And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden. B. It Brought SEPERATION- they hid themselves from GOD!The Fellowship they once enjoyed walking daily with God was cut off!

C. It Brought SLANDER- 1- Adam Gave A Bad EXCUSE- Adam played the Blame Game. First he accused God for giving him the wife. Second he accused the Woman God had given him. (vs. 12) 2- Adam Gave A Bad EXAMPLE- Eve did the same thing in verse 13- she blamed the serpent!

D. It Brought SENTENCE- (vs. 9-19) The sentence was in 3 parts: 1- It Brought WAR-vs.15 “And the Lord God said unto the serpent”- (notice God did not ask the serpent a question- He refused to play games! GOD Declared WAR on the serpent then & there! It was a Sentence of DUST! A Sentence of DOOM! 2- It Brought WOE- vs.16 “Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.” a. It Brought Sorrow in Motherhood b. It Brought Submission in Marriage.3- It Brought WORK-vs. 17-19“And unto Adam he said, Because thou

hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it; cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life;18Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field;19In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thouart, and unto dust shalt thou return. a. There Would Be Sorrow In Man’s Livelihood b. There Would Be Sweat In Man’s Labor

IV. THE CURE FOR THE FALL(vs. 20-24) How in the world is man going to escape the Penalty & Judgment of God?A. CONFESSION IS MADE- vs. 20- And Adam called his wife’s name Eve; because she was the mother of all living. By this confession, Adam was putting Faith in God’s Word that the woman’s seed would bring salvation. (Before you can ever be saved, you must do what Adam did, confess you are guilty and express your faith in the Savior)

B. COVERINGS WERE MADE- vs. 21- Unto Adam also and to his wife did the Lord God make coats of skins, (Surely Adam & Eve stood there in Awe as they watched that innocent animal be killed and shed his blood in their place!)

C. CHRIST IS MEANT- “and clothed them” Those skins covered their sin! Sacrifice was made for their sin. Their fig leaves wasn’t good enough. God took care of their sin. It was the first dramatic illustration of the ultimate cost of Calvary, of the horror and dreadfulness of sin. Sin is a Deadly Disease, and it calls for a Divine Cure!

We have looked at the Command Before The Fall; The Cause of The Fall; The Consequences From The Fall; And The Cure For the Fall

V. THE COMFORT FROM THE FALL

A. GOD CAME WALKING!Vs. 8- And they heard the voice of the Lord God walking in the garden

B. GRACE STARTED WAVING!When that first sacrifice was made it was as if Grace Started Waving- I’m coming! I’m Coming! All through the Old Testamnet Grace was Waving I’m Coming! And in Bethlehem, Grace Cried I’m Here! I’m Here! And at the Cross at Calvary Grace is still Waving- I Came! I Came! Now I ask you-Have you made confession to GOD? Have you confessed your Guilt? Have you by faith looked to Calvary as the Sacrifice & Covering for your sin?
