September Senior Scholarships and Announcements

1.  Begin applying to your top colleges and collegiate scholarships NOW. Guidance Office has some hard copies, but most colleges encourage applying online. When you apply, sign the transcript clipboard in Sizemore’s room so Mrs. Turner can mail your current official transcript.

2.  Graduation Exams Sept 16-20. Monday-Language, Tuesday-Math, Wednesday-Reading, Thursday-Social Studies, and Friday-Biology. Please take advantage of USA TestPrep. Mrs. Hairrell is in the DL Lab 6th period and she can help you get a password if you don’t already have one.

3.  ACT Sept 21st at LCHS or DHS. It is not too late to register as a stand by tester. You must go online and pay the standby test fee by Sept. 13th Registered students must bring picture ID, admission ticket, calculator, and pencil.

4.  ACT October 26. Deadline to register without a late fee is Sept 27. Register at actstudent.org. Fee Waivers available in Guidance Office. Make sure you list college codes (who will get your scores), as well as NCAA (code 9999) if you plan to play collegiate sports. Our school code is 012-659. The October Test is the LAST ACT for scholarship consideration for Alabama, Auburn, UNA, USA, UAB, Montevallo, and UAH* (will accept later scores). Writing portion needed for Alabama, Auburn, UAB, and UAH.

5.  Seniors get one “free day” to visit a college. Call/schedule ahead and bring back the college visit form signed by college representative. (Sizemore)

6.  Visit these sites for information about college admissions, scholarships, and financial aid: alcareerinfo.org, www.alstudentaid.com; degreesearch.org; fastweb.com, scholarships.com, college-scholarships.com, Petersons.com and MeritAid.com. These are free. NEVER PAY for a scholarship service.

7.  I will not be emailing handouts to parents this year. Instead, to make sure everyone has access to the information, each handout will be posted on the Guidance page of the school website: www.elhseagles.com

8.  College and military reps will be visiting you in Government class all semester.
