How to use the TI-83 graphing calculator to construct a frequency table (section 2.2, Weiss)

The graphing calculator will make easier the process of determining the frequency of each one of the classes. We are going to enter the data in a list, sort the data, and access the list to count how many numbers are in each one of the classes. This count will represent the frequency for the class.

Days to Maturity for Short-Term Investments

The table displays the number of days to maturity for 20 short-term investments.

70 / 64 / 99 / 55 / 62
38 / 67 / 70 / 75 / 56
71 / 51 / 57 / 53 / 47
50 / 51 / 36 / 63 / 66

1) Clear List 1:

STAT 4:ClrList ENTER L1(2nd 1) ENTER

2) Enter data in List 1:

STAT 1:Edit ENTER

Type a number and press ENTER, repeat the process until you entered all the data.

3) Exit the editor to go to the home screen

2nd MODE [QUIT]

4) Sort List 1

STAT 2:SortA( ENTER L1)(2nd 1) ENTER

5) Access the editor

STAT 1:Edit ENTER

6) Determine the frequencies by counting how many numbers are in each one of the classes.
