Today we tested our internal magnetism awareness. Science Research project has had 2 days with computers! Requirements are rock type, plate boundaries, background on the volcano, volcano type, 5 fun activities that you will participate in, 5 plants and animals in the area, sources of water, and any unique rock types! Due Date September 26!

September 21 We will observe Earth's interior structures that we showed today through P (compressional) and S (shear) waves of energy. These seismic waves will be combined with magnetism to create a clear picture of Earth's interior...

September 20 The eruption of Mt. St. Helens watch this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UK--hvgP2uYIn class we go back to this time period. These seismic waves travel through the Earth's interior and create the modern day picture of the layers inside Earth. https://www.classzone.com/books/earth_science/terc/content/visualizations/es1009/es1009page01.cfm?chapter_no=visualization

September 19 We visited the computer lab today. We gathered background information on VOLCANOES. This will be our first independent research project. Your job is to create a presentation as if you have visited this Volcano. The requirements are background on your volcano (height, rock type, major plate boundary), 5 fun activities that you would participate in, food/water resources, plants and animals of the area and natural minerals. Look up flights, cruises, and any other activity that you would want to do! Make it fun yet educational too! Projects will be due September 26th. Some students will elect to build the volcano and have it erupt in class or at home on video!

September 16 Today in class we observed the destructive forces of Tsunami, In Japan and in Indonesia. Continue with your research on Earthquakes, volcanoes, tsunami, avalanche, rock slides and island building. Begin near New Jersey and move away from us. Remain in North America in your research. The first 10 minutes should tell the story.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W88nNI9CYCA

September 15 I will be absent from class, sorry. I am asking you to read a collection from articles that we have looked over in class. Pick several articles and read them. After familiarizing with the article complete 4 parts. 1. Summarize the article. Try to use key words from the article directly(1 full paragraph). 2. Draw a picture that is key to understanding. Use markers in the classroom. 3. Most important!! Create an alternative ending for at least one of the articles that you are most familiar with. Try to relate this article to the topics of earthquakes, volcanoes and mountains. 4. Present this information to the class! Finally take notes on your peers. You should have a section in your journal where you have learned from your peers.

September 14, 2016 Tonight check out this video.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9yHIsQhVxGM Would you have predicted this outcome? I suggest you begin to look into volcanoes, earthquakes (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BUREX8aFbMs )and mountain ranges for homework. Pick an event such as the 2004 Boxer Day Tsunami, the video is graphic,(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RDOuwMj7Xzo )from Indonesia or the Tsunami from Japan in 2011(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j0YOXVlPUu4) After viewing the above video you should express your understanding of the power of nature in a short paragraph.

Check out Elizabeth Blackwell too! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elizabeth_Blackwell

Watch the same video as last night up to 15 minutes duration. Explain the formation at the surface of Earth. We will also create seismic wave energy in class tomorrow.

September 12, 2016 Watch the first 6 minutes of the following video. Try to use the terms from the quizlet last week to describe this event.

Homework question. What does this video show?
