Standard Requirements for High Profile Shows

Pre Event Considerations

Championship Feel

·  It is essential for all High Profile Shows that venues are significantly enhanced in terms of dressing in comparison with a normal show.

·  Competitors must feel a tangible change to the environment over that which they would expect at a normal show.

Organising Team

·  A proven show organising committee that has run efficient and friendly shows for a minimum of two seasons.

Risk Assessment

·  An up to date risk assessment must be in place which takes account of the changes that occur due to the increased level of lorry parking required, horse movement etc.

·  This should also take into account:

§  any additional first aid requirements

§  wet weather issues.

Judges

·  Judges (and sponsors) should have separate catering and ideally a host for judges. It is important as with all classes that the Judges are given the requisite number of breaks during their classes.

On Event Considerations

Arenas

·  Organisers must have in place the ability to maintain the arenas to a high standard during the competition.

·  Adequate stewarding must be in place to ensure all competitors get into the right arena at the right time.

·  Arenas must be decorated and must have complete arena boards.

Parking

·  Adequate facilities must be in place in terms of space for parking cars and lorries.

·  Attention must be paid to wet weather issues, but also in Great Britain we can have a lot of rain at any time so this must be taken into account.

Health and Safety

·  H&S issues must be taken into account especially in terms of ensuring that the mixing of spectators cars, lorries, horses and pedestrians is minimised.

Sponsors

·  It is important that separate hospitality is provided for sponsors and judges, and ideally some form of hosting in place for sponsors.

Prize Giving

·  Either the sponsor or the Senior Judge is to present the rosettes.

·  There must be appropriate music for the prize giving.

·  Prize Givings must be stewarded in an appropriate way to ensure that all the competitors have the opportunity of appearing in the prize giving and that risk of injury is minimised.

Catering

·  There must be adequate catering on site for spectators and competitors and as stated above there should be separate catering for judges/sponsors.

PA

·  There should be a good public address system and a commentator throughout the competition and in particular for the prize givings. Where sponsor information is provided this should be read out.

Stewarding

·  It is vitally important for the smooth running of shows that efficient and adequate stewarding is in place. This is not only to ensure that competitors are in the right place at the right time but also to ensure prize givings are run efficiently.

Toilets

·  There must be sufficient toilets and they must be clean.

Trade Stands

·  Are nice to have in particular for spectators and competitors.

Scores/Score Board

·  Adequate staffing should be in place to ensure that the scores are added up and on the scoreboard within 30 minutes of each competitor competing, and all scores should be posted no later than 30 minutes after the end of each of class.

Results

·  Results should be sent to the BD office as quickly as possible at the end of the competition.

Photography/Pictures

·  It is strongly advised that a photographer is present who is selling pictures at the competition for competitors.
