About Into Film

Into Film is an education charity that puts film at the heart of children and young people’s educational, cultural and personal development.

Over half of UK schools engage with our programme of film clubs, special cinema screenings, and resources and training to support classroom teaching. Alongside rich online content for young audiences, this provides 5-19 year olds with inspiring opportunities to learn about and with film, and develop a passion for cinema.

Role Summary

The Senior PR and Editorial Officer leads on PR, managing freelance and agency support to maximise all opportunities for generating coverage across print and online channels - ensuring that Into Film retains its position as the UK’s leading film education charity. They take editorial lead for the Into Film website, working alongside the Head of Content, and managing colleagues from across the organisation to plan and create engaging, SEO-optimised copy. In addition, the Senior PR and Editorial Officer leads on the recruitment and development of ambassadors for Into Film, ensuring that their involvement is planned and maximised to generate positive coverage for Into Film.

Main Responsibilities

  • PR lead for Into Film – strategy development, planning and implementation of all press and PR activity (including Into Film national/regional offices) to drive awareness of Into Film
  • Play a key editorial role on the Into Film website, working with the Head of Content to manage colleagues from across the organisation to plan and generate content
  • PR lead for all Into Film events, managing all freelance and agency support
  • Work with colleagues in content and operations to ensure that relevant youth ambassador and club leader case studies are maximised for PR
  • Ensure that all Into Film coverage is monitored, evaluated and shared with senior colleagues
  • Management of PR budget
  • Management of freelance PR support, ensuring they meet Into Film objectives and deliver value for money
  • Development and implementation of ambassador strategy, ensuring that Into Film attracts talent that is maximised to drive awareness and engagement (Eddie Redmayne, for example, is one of the Ambassadors working with us)
  • Contribute regular content for the Into Film website and social media channels
  • Regular contributor to the Into Film intranet
  • Manage photography, working with the Senior Marketing Officer to ensure all Into Film requirements are met
  • Into Film lead on quotes/endorsements, ensuring that all are captured and recorded for use in future communications

Person Specification

Essential

  • Experience of writing and implementing PR strategies and plans, including setting and reporting against KPIs
  • Experience of developing and managing national PR campaigns
  • Experience of managing freelance PRs and agencies – including briefing, day-to-day management, budgeting and reporting/evaluation
  • Experience of working with high-profile talent and trustees to secure media coverage
  • A track record in generating arts-related coverage, ideally for a third sector organisation
  • Good contacts in film, entertainment and charity media outlets
  • A proven ability to piggy-back the news agenda in order to generate media coverage – for example placing comment pieces and letters to editor
  • An excellent understanding of how media coverage is secured across print and online outlets and a creative/forward-thinking approach to pitching stories
  • Experience of writing copy for a range of outlets and audiences, including press releases, websites, intranets and social media
  • Experience of managing budgets including planning, re-forecasting and expenditure sign off
  • An excellent understanding of the education market and how teachers can use film (and the arts more broadly) to meet their teaching and learning objectives
  • A good understanding of the BFI, the FAN network and other regional film/arts organisations

Desirable

  • Familiarity with the Microsoft Office for Mac suite
  • A love and knowledge of film
