“Hanging Tags”
WHEREAS:the Associated Student Government serves to represent the students at Texas State University- San Marcos; and
WHEREAS:students, faculty and staff at Texas State University- San Marcos who wish to park on campus are required to purchase a parking permit; and
WHEREAS:faculty and staff members have parking permits that hang from their rear view mirror in order to park in red parking lots designated for red colored permits; and
WHEREAS:students have parking permits that do not hang from the rear view mirror and instead stick to the front windshield; and
WHEREAS:the sticking permits leave residue on the front windshield and are extremely difficult to remove; and
WHEREAS:Parking Services gave the reason that students could not have a hanging tag like that of faculty staff because students could potentially share a parking permit among several cars; and
WHEREAS:several senators asked Parking Services if the license plate number could be printed on the hanging tag in order to avoid this problem; and
WHEREAS:the current printing company and the printing process that Parking Services uses may not be capable of printing license plate numbers on the hanging tag; and
WHEREAS:other major universities in Texas have hanging tags for all faculty, staff and students using the same printing company; and
WHEREAS:students at Texas State University- San Marcos deserve the same quality parking permits as other students statewide; therefore
BE IT RESOLVED:that Parking Services negotiate with the current printing company to allow students to have hanging tags; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED:that if the current printing company cannot meet these needs, that instead Parking Services asks for a bid from Weldon, Williams & Lick (WWL) in order to give all Texas State University students hanging tags like other students at other universities in Texas; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED:that whether Parking Services uses the current printing company or the proposed company, students at Texas State University- San Marcos can purchase hanging tags for the 2011-2012 academic year; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED:that if hanging tags are incorporated into Texas State parking plan, then sufficient efforts to recycle and reuse plastic tags be made by any party involved, be it ASG or otherwise
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED:that this legislation be forwarded to Assistant Director of Parking Services Mr. Stephen Prentice, ASG Advisor Kathy Weiser, Dean of Students Dr. Margarita Arellano, Vice President for Student Affairs Dr. Joanne Smith and President Dr. Denise Trauth upon its passage.
