RE:JV Volleyball Divisional Alignment

Prior to the fall of 2005, the CYM JV Volleyball program had 4 divisions – Red, White, Green and Blue. The Red division was primarily all 6th graders, the White and Green Divisions were a mixure of 6th/5th/4th graders and the Blue Division was 4th graders only division. This format for the most part worked but was not without some problems such as stronger teams in weaker divisions and weaker teams in stronger divisions. However for the most part, the majority of teams were placed in the correct division. In the fall of 2005, we had too many teams (more than 16) requesting White and Green divisions. CYM needed to add a Yellow Division to the JV program pulling teams from the White and Green divisions. This resulted in concerns raised by some coaches.

DIVISIONAL PLACEMENT – When making decisions on divisional alignment for JV volleyball, the Volleyball Divsional Alignment Committee will consider the division request of the team submitted on the divisional placement form, the make up of the teams (number of 6th/5th/4th graders) compared to other teams and any special circumstances a coach submits by email to the committee. Please note that we have added “# CLUB PLAYERS”to the form. Since each team receives a ten (10) game schedule over eight weekends, twelve (12) teams in each division is ideal because an even number of teams avoids byes and no team plays another team in the division more than once. Once the divisions are set, there will be no changes.

DIVISIONS – Coaches should consider the following general guidelines when completing the Divisional Placement Form:

  • RED – The Red Division teams will consist primarily of 6th graders with some 5th graders. Teams with a tradition of having a strong volleyball program will also be considered.
  • WHITE – The White Division will have a majority of 6th and 5th graders with the possibility of some 4th graders.
  • YELLOW – The Yellow Division will be a mixture 6th, 5thand 4th graders.
  • GREEN –The Green Division will be primarily 5thand 4th graders – NO 6thpermitted.
  • BLUE – The Blue Division will be for 4th graders ONLY!

Please keep in mind that these are guidelines. The number of club players on a team could impact on team placement. Every effort will be made to place teams in division with teams of a similar make up. Parishes with more than 4 teams are to use a second page for their 5th, 6th, etc teams. In such cases, please cross out the #1 put #5. etc.

The deadline to submit the Divisional Placement form (SEE BACK) is Monday August 22, 2011. If you have a question on what division a particular team should be placed, please give Sue Leonard a call at 764-8867.

Thank you
