Job Title: Trust Data Manager

Salary: FST Scheme 10

Responsible to: Executive Officer

  1. Main Purpose of Job

To lead development of the approach to data so that it provides timely and accurate information to help raise standards, and report progress identifying cause for concern and trend information. To be accountable for the quality of data systems within the Trust and for the quality of data prepared for a range of stakeholders including senior leaders, Governors, parents and external agencies.

  1. Accountability
  1. To lead the development of the data systems across the Trust so that data is up to date, accurate, accessible and well presented for a range of stakeholders.
  2. To maximise the functionality of the schools MIS to ensure the easy capture of data and so to reduce workload and enable the school to be compliant with various workforce agreements.
  3. To provide timely data that enables governors, managers, teachers and other key staff in the Trust to accurately evaluate performance, set targets and monitor the impact of planned changes.
  4. To make sure that data systems are sophisticated enough to allow the school to evaluate the performance of every student.
  5. To manage the Trust’s commitments for the reporting of data to the Department for Education and other agencies making sure that our commitments are met and that data transferred is accurate and reliable (eg: Census and DSD data collection) .
  6. To work with the ICT and assessment support team to create a synergy between the various parts of the MIS and the needs of data users.
  7. To lead the work of the data and assessment team, and manage their workload holdingthem to account through clarifying expectations, setting high standards for others and ensuring that objectives are achieved.
  8. To line manage the data team and to develop and empower the team so that they experience real, significant personal and professional growth. This will involve continually creating and supporting opportunities to develop colleagues.
  9. To work with senior leaders to ensure compliance with data expectations.
  10. Advise on and undertake the efficient design, development and organisation of the school’s information management system (MIS).
  11. Maintain and develop the school’s MIS, with overall responsibility for ensuring effective data input and making sure all data remains current and secure.
  12. Support and train members of staff at different levels in their use of MIS and Excel.
  1. Provide INSET on the MIS database.
  2. Have an understanding and ensure the school complies with the requirements of the Data Protection Act and carry out work in accordance with these requirements.
  3. Provide analysis of school data and information to assist the Leadership Group in decision making.
  4. To keep informed and abreast of developments in data management in relation to an educational environment and make recommendations to Leadership Team accordingly.
  5. Working with the Leadership Team to encourage staff to develop the use of data as an analytical tool.
  6. To interpret, present and communicate clearly analysed data to a variety of audiences when requested.

3. Person Specification

  • Exceptional Analytical skills
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills, in particular Excel skills
  • Level 4 qualification in a relevant subject (Diploma/Certificate of Higher Education or higher)
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development
  • Experience of working on the provision of high quality data management and analysis.
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines in a pressured environment
  • Ability to manage a busy department’s workload through a yearly cycle
  • High levels of honesty and integrity, confidence and self-motivation
  • Ability to challenge views of others through the communication of factual easy to understand data analysis
