Overview

The following instructions outline the approval process for self-printing payment summaries on plain paper.

Qualification

Self-printing of payment summaries on plain paper is available only to payers who lodge their payment summary annual report to the ATO electronically. Self-printed payment summaries must be in a format acceptable to the ATO and be printed to an acceptable printing standard. If the payment summary is sent to the payee electronically, they must be able to print the payment summary to the same acceptable standard. For information about the acceptable printing standard, please refer to the specification for Self-printing pay as you go(PAYG) withholding payment summaries version 5.2.0or version 5.2.1which are available on the Software Developers Homepage.

Payment summaries can only be self-printed when the payer provides a payment summary annual report to the ATO electronically.

Self-testing procedures

The approval procedure for the self-testing process for self-printing payment summaries on plain paper is as follows:

  • Software developers self-test the payment summaries produced by their products against the requirements of the specification for Self-printing pay as you go (PAYG) withholding payment summaries version 5.2.0or version 5.2.1.
  • If payment summaries meet the requirements of this specification, software developers complete a Declaration of Compliance on the ATO’s Software Developers Homepage Product Register for the payment summary types that are supported by their product(s). Approval is effective upon completion of the declaration.
  • There is no requirement for in-house developers to lodge a declaration and list their product(s).

Payment summary variations

Please note that the set standard for all self-printed payment summary types cannot be varied from the ATO layouts.

Listing products on the Software Developers Homepage website

Commercial developers can list their products on the Software Developers Homepage Product Register once they have completed the self-test procedure. Software developers that have listed their product on the Product Register may direct users to the website atfor confirmation that the product has met our requirements.
