Benson Business Association Meeting Minutes 11-18-14:

Boo Bash Recap: 1,500 participants. Good weather. Good turnout, even though it was the same time as a Husker football game.

Zombie Walk: was the same day as the Boo Bash. Turn out was slow compared to previous years, possibly due to being under promoted. KurtGoetzinger said there is a public perception that theZW is put on by the BBA. In fact, Eric Hahn is in charge of it. Kurt has his contact information for anyone who needs it. TheBBA might be interested in taking on this event.D'Ann said there needs to be better clean up after the event

Benson Days: We don't have a date yet. Looking for a Saturday in September with no Husker game. Moving dateto September from July to encourage more student participation.

BNA: The meeting on this coming Monday (11/24) will be at a different location, which will be Benson High School. There will be voting of new board members and a potluck dinner. Also, we will be deciding on the calendar of events forBNA for 2015. All are welcome.

Omaha By Design:

- Art on the Boulevard - A Series of 10 banners, each featuring original art, will be hung alongFontenelle Boulevard between Northwest Radial Highway and Ames Avenue.

- TheIndie race date has been set for Saturday, July 11th. Location will be moved due to construction. Stay tuned.

Attorney JamesRegan spoke about tourism dollars available from the tourism commission. This could possibly help pay for Benson Days. He will find out the best way to ask. It's easy to get funding as long as you fill out the paperwork correctly.

SamanthaBlackwell announcedParlor 1887will be having an open house for Small Business Saturday. There will be food and 29% discounts on products.

SamanthaBlackwell will be sending out a doodle invite to figure outfuture meetingdates/times for futureBBA meetings. We might meet quarterly. Times will vary with schedules as availability can change throughout the year. TheBBA will be moving in a new direction, and will have a greater focus on promotion. She would like to breath new life into the BBA.

BID:

-LetD'Ann know if you see repairs or street lights that need to be fixed. Focus on traffic in alleys. BID will be setting budget this month and next. Don't be afraid to report things you see, even if you're not sure if it's infrastructure.

-Banners to promote shopping: "Shop Local, Buy it in Benson"

Library:

- The Dept of Agriculture shut down the seedcatalogue because of seeds from unverified sources. Can only accept seed donations from a verified source. CarolErkens declared the program had been successful and the library is looking at programs for next year based on growing your own food. There is going to be a shortage ofchocolatebecauseof problems withthe cocoa tree.

ImmanuelLutheran Church:

-Saturday Advent Fair - 11-2:chili and ham and cheese sandwiches. Fun for kids, creating Christmas tree ornaments.

-Super Soup Supper Sunday. Nov. 23rd, 12-3- Turkey noodle andWisconsin cheese soup. Come early. It was sold out last year.

Pancake fundraiser for church member with cancer.Deceember 7th. Dave Johnson wasn't sure on the time, but said to see the Immanuel Lutheran ChurchFacebook page.

Edward Jones update: Edward Jones will be having an open house on December11th from 1-7 in the office. Come check out the office. Treats and hot cider will be served.

Benson High School: will be having career academies. The three areas of focus will be small business, health and design. The school received a 13 million bond and 5 million will be designated for career academies.

TSYS: is one of the firstmerchant processors accepting Apple Pay.

Farmer's Market Update: There will be an indoor Farmer's Market on November22nd and December13th at Bethany Lutheran Church from 9-2.
