JOB DESCRIPTION

POST Volunteer Coordinator

RESPONSIBLE TO:Cashpoint, Participationand Volunteer Manager

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

The post holder will be responsible for the recruitment, training and support of volunteers within the organisation. This will include co-ordinating our existing VIP volunteering programme and our Corporate Volunteering programme; developing our Young Volunteer Programme (in liaison with the Bristol Youth Links Peer Support Co-ordinator) and setting up a new Community Volunteer Programme which will provide mentors for service users.

Key objectives will be:

  • To expand and maintain the volunteering (VIP) programme
  • To liaise with corporate partners and internal teams to organise a number of corporate volunteering events each year.
  • To set up a Community Volunteer programme that places community volunteers as mentors for service users.
  • To support young people to become Peer Mentors/Young Volunteers
  • To maintain robust recruitment processes for volunteers including DBS processes
  • To deliver and/or co-ordinate good quality training/induction for volunteers
  • To oversee support structures for volunteers e.g. newsletters, training, supervision, events etc.

This objective should be achieved in line with the organisation’s ethos of keeping the young person at the heart of everything we do.

Tasks and Duties:

  1. Recruitment of volunteers

1.1.Liaison with team/department managers to identify volunteer opportunities within 1625

1.2 Drafting of volunteer role descriptions and person specifications

1.3 Promoting volunteering opportunities including placing advertisements for volunteers e.g. with Voscur

1.4 Updating the 1625 website with volunteer opportunities

1.5 Attending volunteer recruitment events e.g. at Universities

1.6Processing volunteer applications

1.7 Interviewing volunteers and matching them to opportunities

1.8 Ensuring that all the necessary checks are undertaken on potential volunteers

1.9 Completing risk assessments for volunteer programmes and individuals

  1. Supporting Volunteers

2.1Providing, or co-ordinating via managers, support/supervision and training for volunteers

2.2 Raising the profile and value of volunteering with staff within 1625

2.3 Organising and overseeing volunteering activities and events for groups of employees from corporate partners

2.4 Ensuring that volunteers are supported and involved with the organisation

2.5 Maintaining regular communications with volunteers and with people waiting for volunteer opportunities

2.6 Supporting groups of volunteers from business partners to undertake volunteer team tasks.

2.7 Liaison with our Paul Hamlyn funded Mental Health Worker regarding their delivery of regular reflective practice for Community Mentors and Peer Supporters and training in Psychologically Informed approaches.

2.8 Work flexibly including work at weekends and evenings when young people may need support.

  1. Service Development

3.1 Liaison with community groups and businesses to identify appropriate Community Mentors for young people

3.2 Liaison with the Participation Team and the BYL Peer Support Co-ordinator regarding the development of Peer Support and Peer Education within 1625

3.3 Monitoring and evaluating volunteer programmes to ensure continuous improvement

3.4 Producing statistics and reports on volunteering take up and outcomes

3.5 Maintaining knowledge of, and sharing, good practice in volunteering

3.6 Developing new volunteering programmes as opportunities arise

3.7 Developing robust policies and procedures

  1. Other Organisational and General Responsibilities
  2. To safeguard and promote the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults, working within 1625 independent Peoples safeguarding policies, South West Child Protection Procedures and Local procedures for safeguarding vulnerable adults.
  3. To actively engage in all aspects of the organisation’s Psychologically Informed Environments Framework.
  4. To act as a representative of 1625 Independent People at internal and external meetings, as required.
  5. To attend staff supervision and annualPerformance Development Reviews
  6. To attend staff meetings and take part in staff development programmes.
  7. To attend training courses when required.
  8. To understand and contribute to the overall objectives of the organisation.
  9. To assist in the development of the organisational policy.
  10. To follow all existing policies and procedures.
  11. To promote the organisation through building professional links with outside bodies.
  12. To observe the organisation’sCode of Conduct.
  13. To carry out day-to-day administration functions to ensure that all records and files are maintained and stored securely in line with the Data Protection legislation.
  14. To follow all financial procedures in operation at the projects, to ensure the safe handling of monies.
  15. To contribute to the collection of statistical information and prepare information for the monitoring and evaluation of the service.
  16. To provide a diverse and culturally sensitive service, ensuring that anti-discriminatory practice and equality of opportunity are promoted within all aspects of Independent People’s services.
  17. To attend external events, meetings, training and development activities when required even if these are outside of your working hours and away from your normal place of work.
  18. To carry out other duties that are consistent with the above as may be required from time to time.
