  1. Background

Under the framework of UNEP’s “Support for the Environmental Management of the Iraqi Marshlands Project”, pilot projects on drinking water provision, sanitation provision will be implemented. International Environmental Technology Centre (IETC) of the Division of Technology, Industry, and Economics (DTIE) is the implementing branch of UNEP for the pilot projects.

Pilot projects on drinking water provision, sanitation provision and application of phytotechnology for water quality improvement are being implemented in six communities identified in Thi-Qar, Missan and Basra governorates. Estimated population in these communities is in the range of 1,500 to 6000 persons.

In Iraq, Ministry of Environment (MOE) is the coordinating ministry for the UNEP’s project including that of pilot projects and will be supported by Ministry of Water Resources (MOWR) and the Ministry of Municipalities and Public Works (MOMPW) in the project activities.

Contracts for procurement of goods and services for the pilot projects will be administered by UNOPS Office in Amman, Jordan.

  1. Expected Procurement Components

Following components for the pilot projects on drinking water provision are expected to be procured.

  • Equipment and goods for drinking water treatment units employing conventional treatment processes, e.g. coagulation, flocculation, sedimentation, filtration and disinfection
  • Equipment and goods for drinking water treatment process units with desalination using reverse osmosis membranes for brackish water
  • Equipment and goods such as pumps, pipes and fittings etc. for supply of drinking water
  • Supply, transport, delivery to the pilot project sites, and their installation as required

The equipment and goods to be procured will be based on the results of field study undertaken in the six pilot project sites. General construction of facilities is expected to be undertaken by Iraqi contractors. Installation of specialized equipment is expected to be commissioned by the suppliers in coordination with general contractors.

3.Submission of EOI

UNOPS invites interested firms capable of providing the services to submit their expression of interest.

In order to qualify as a potential supplier, interested firms should submit their Expression of Interest with the following supporting documents.

  • Company profile with details of number of staff, annual turnover, years in business
  • Recent experiences with similar nature of work, indicating location of project, client, type and capacity of units installed, etc.
  • Recent experiences with similar nature of work in Iraq or in the middle-east region, indicating location of project, client, type and capacity of units installed, etc.
  • List of representatives in Iraq or in the middle-east region
  • Contact information (full name and country, telephone and fax numbers, e-mail and website address, and contact person)

The Expression of Interest and the supporting documents must be received by UNOPS no later than the closing date indicated for submission of EOI at the address indicated below.

UNOPS reserves the right to accept or reject any Expression of Interest. Only qualified companies will be considered for inclusion in the short list of companies to be invited to participate in the possible subsequence bidding process. Invitations to bid or requests for proposals and any subsequent purchase order or contract will be issued in accordance with the rules and procedures of UNOPS.
