SEEDING FOR TEAM AND INDIVIDUAL TOURNAMENTS

LEAGUE MEETINGS must be held prior to April 11, 2017 at 8:00 am. At this meeting schools should verify team final standings and set the ranking order for singles and doubles players from their league. It is essential that the designated Tennis Advisory Committee Member of each league hold a league meeting not only to review team results, but to establish the list of your individual qualified entries. The entry form is included in this bulletin.

The Tennis Seeding Committee will seed all teams for each division. Only league champions from leagues with four or more teams will be given an automatic berth to the playoffs. All other teams will be given playoff consideration by the Seeding Committee. The home school will be determined by the higher seed. The Division 1 draw will have 12 teams and four byes. Byes will be given to the top four teams in the first round of the draw. The Division 2 draw will be a 16 team draw. There will be a single elimination tournament in both divisions with medals being presented to the champions and runners-up in each division. Division placement is attached.

EACH TEAM WILL FURNISH HALF OF THE BALLS FOR all Rounds in both divisions of the Team Championship. Round I, II and semi-finals will be played at home sites; (home site will be the higher seed). The Finals for both divisions will be played at Balboa Sports Center.

SEEDING FOR THE TEAM TOURNAMENTS will take place on Tuesday, April 11. Team playoff brackets will be posted on www.cif-la.org by 2:00 P.M. Tennis Advisory Committee members will submit to the Athletics Office prior to 8:00 am, April 11, 2017 the ranking order of individual players from your league and the team results. The individual tournament brackets will be posted prior to April 20.

Please not that AP tests are occurring during our tournaments. Please make sure your athletes apply for a late test if necessary.

Host schools are required to have an emergency action plan in place for athletic events. Should you require additional information go to www.cif-la.org for “Event Emergency Guidelines” information.

TEAM TOURNAMENT INFORMATION

1.  BEFORE START OF MATCH: All stretching, team talks, cheers and team introductions must take place prior to the start time. For the championships, this means prior to the athletes taking the courts.

2.  COACHING: After every odd game, including game 1, in the round robin format, you are allowed a

90 second coaching period.

3.  SCORING FOR TEAM: Round Robin – 1 point for each singles win and 1½ points each doubles win

for a total of 29½ points. NO AD SCORING

4. GOLDBOOK RULES: Please go over rules in the Goldbook.

5. REPORTING SCORES (Playoffs)

The winning team is responsible to report the scores to the Athletics Office (818)767-0800 immediately following your match and e-mail at . E-mail is preferred! Also, it is mandatory for you to report your scores on MaxPreps.

6. The Higher Seed for the finals gets to choose between staying on courts or rotating after each round of matches.

7. USTA and section rules will apply.

INDIVIDUAL TOURNAMENT PROCEDURES

PROCEDURES

Each LEAGUE may enter one singles and one doubles and may be allowed to enter extra entries to make a draw of 32 entries. An alternate list will also be made. Every TAC MUST provide a numerical list of single and doubles entries for their league. Every entry MUST have a write-up by the coach to include all information that the seeding committee will use to determine the entries and the seeds. These write-ups may be updated, via fax, through April 18, 2017. Selection MUST be completed PRIOR to Monday, April 10, 2017, according to agreed-upon league format. Final League entries and any other required information MUST be sent to the CIF Los Angeles City Section office for your league prior the SEEDING MEETING, Tuesday, April 11, 2017, at 8:00 a.m.

GENERAL RULES:

1.  Each Tennis Advisory Committee Member (TAC) will be responsible for entries/eligibility according to the following format.

a. Players can be entered into singles or doubles regardless of how many contests they played in during the season.

b. Each league must meet and rank the individual singles and doubles entries.

c. Individual Tournament Entries - If coaches cannot agree between a #1 entry from one school and a #2 entry from another school, a match may be played as long as it is played PRIOR to the seeding meeting. League tournaments are encouraged prior to the seeding date.

d. The leagues individual rankings list must be sent to Vicky Lagos at prior to 8:00 am, Tuesday, April 11, 2017.

2. A single elimination tournament, with draw, will be conducted in both the singles and doubles event.

SUBSTITUTION FOR ANY REASON WILL NOT BE MADE ONCE THE DRAW HAS BEEN ESTABLISHED! Coaches, please review this with your players. A singles player would automatically forfeit match to opponent. A doubles team who loses a partner for any reason would automatically forfeit match to opponent.

3. AWARDS: will be presented for places one through four for both singles and doubles. All-City individual singles/doubles participants will be eligible for selection to the All-City team. Awards will be presented at the close of all matches on May 11, 2017.

BE SURE TO NOTE YOUR SINGLES & DOUBLES ASSIGNED DATE AND TIME AND INSTRUCT YOUR PLAYERS WITH DIRECTIONS! Information will be e-mailed to you at your school before the start of the Individual Tournament.

GENERAL INFORMATION FOR TEAM AND INDIVIDUAL TOURNAMENTS

1. Each school must provide their own tennis balls for all rounds of the tournaments. The winner of each round will use the new can for his next match. It is also requested that each team bring scorecards.

2. USTA RULES and all IAC rules will apply. It is recommended that each participating school be prepared to provide scorekeepers. Warm-ups shall be a maximum of 8 minutes including warm-up serves. In addition, two minutes will be allowed for coaching before the start of the match.

3. ALL MATCHES will be two out of three sets. NO-AD SCORING A 12 Point tiebreak will be played at 6-all. This is for the Individual Tournament only.

4. DEFAULT TIME FOR ALL ROUNDS IS 15 MINUTES FROM ACTUAL TIME MATCH IS SCHEDULED TO PLAY. Failure to check in within that time may constitute grounds for default from the tournament.

5. COACHES SIGN-IN: Each coach MUST check-in with the Tournament Director when all of their players are present! Due to liability, the coach (or designated school representative with CPR and First Aid) MUST be present for the duration of all their school matches. No player will be assigned a court for play without a coach (or designee) in attendance.

6. UNIFORMS: Coaches check players BEFORE they enter playing courts. As the coach, if you have any doubts, consult with the Tournament Director. The Tournament Director has the final ruling on any uniform violation.

Balboa Sports Center Information

1.  Parking is available near the courts. (DO NOT park in staff spots)

2.  Only tennis shoes will be allowed. (Only non-skid soles)

3.  Restrooms are available near the courts, but there are no dressing rooms. Please arrive in your tennis clothes.
