SECTION 221413 - FACILITY STORM DRAINAGE PIPING

PART 1 - GENERAL

1.1RELATED DOCUMENTS

Retain or delete this article in all Sections of Project Manual.

1.3PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS

  1. Components and installation shall be capable of withstanding the following minimum working pressure unless otherwise indicated:

Revise pressure ratings in two subparagraphs below to suit Project. Coordinate with Section221423 "Storm Drainage Piping Specialties." Storm drainage piping may require higher rating if used in high-rise buildings.

  1. Storm Drainage Piping: [10-foot head of water (30 kPa)] <Insert pressure>.
  2. Storm Drainage, Force-Main Piping: [50 psig (345 kPa)] [100 psig (690 kPa)] [150 psig (1035 kPa)] <Insert pressure>.

Retain paragraph below with "Seismic Qualification Certificates" Paragraph in "Submittals" Article for projects requiring seismic design. Model building codes and ASCE/SEI7 establish criteria for buildings subject to earthquake motions. Verify requirements of authorities having jurisdiction.

  1. Seismic Performance: Storm drainage piping and support and installation shall withstand the effects of earthquake motions determined according to [ASCE/SEI7] <Insert requirement>.

1.4ACTION SUBMITTALS

  1. Product Data: For each type of product indicated.
  2. Sustainable Design Submittals:

"Product Data" Subparagraph below applies to LEED 2009 NC, CI, and CS; LEEDv4; IgCC; ASHRAE189.1; and Green Globes. Coordinate with requirements for adhesives.

"Laboratory Test Reports" Subparagraph below applies to LEED 2009 for Schools, LEEDv4, IgCC, ASHRAE189.1, and Green Globes. Coordinate with requirements for adhesives.

Retain first paragraph below if controlled-flow or siphonic roof drainage system is retained.

  1. Shop Drawings: For [controlled-flow] [siphonic] roof drainage system. Include calculations, plans, and details.

1.5INFORMATIONAL SUBMITTALS

Retain first paragraph below if required by seismic criteria applicable to Project. Coordinate with Section220548 "Vibration and Seismic Controls for Plumbing Piping and Equipment." See ASCE/SEI7 for certification requirements for equipment and components.

  1. Seismic Qualification Certificates: For storm drainage piping, accessories, and components, from manufacturer.
  2. Basis for Certification: Indicate whether withstand certification is based on actual test of assembled components or on calculation.
  3. Detailed description of equipment anchorage devices on which the certification is based and their installation requirements.
  4. Field quality-control reports.

1.6QUALITY ASSURANCE

  1. Piping materials shall bear label, stamp, or other markings of specified testing agency.

Retain paragraph below if NSF markings are required.

  1. Comply with NSF/ANSI14, "Plastics Piping System Components and Related Materials," for plastic piping components. Include marking with "NSF-drain" for plastic drain piping and "NSF-sewer" for plastic sewer piping.

1.7PROJECT CONDITIONS

Retain paragraph below if interruption of existing storm-drainage service is required.

  1. Interruption of Existing Storm-Drainage Service: Do not interrupt service to facilities occupied by Owner or others unless permitted under the following conditions and then only after arranging to provide temporary service according to requirements indicated:
  2. Notify [Architect] [Construction Manager] [Owner] no fewer than [two] <Insert number> days in advance of proposed interruption of storm-drainage service.
  3. Do not proceed with interruption of storm-drainage service without [Architect's] [Construction Manager's] [Owner's] written permission.

1.8WARRANTY

For complete details, please refer to our Standard Terms and Conditions and WarrantyandLimitations of Liability at:

  1. Manufacturer's Special Warranty on Domestic Products: Conbraco Industries, Inc. warrants products to be free of defects in workmanship or material for a period of five years. This warranty applies to Apollo brand products with "Made in the USA" markings only. Conbraco will correct such defects by suitable repair or replacement at Conbraco's discretion.
  2. Manufacturer's Special Warranty on International Products: APOLLO INTERNATIONAL products will be free of defects in workmanship or material for a period of two years. Conbraco will correct such defects by suitable repair or replacement at Conbraco's discretion.
  3. Manufacturer's Warranty on LASCO Fittings, Inc. products will be free of defects in workmanship for a period of three (3) years from date of installation. The manufacturers liability under expressed or implied warranty or for any reason is limited to furnishing replacement units or granting a credit for defective units. No labor expense or consequential damages will be paid by LASCO Fittings, Inc. For complete details please refer to:
  4. Elkhart Products Corporation warranties our fittings to be free from defects in materials and workmanship for a period of fifty (50) years. The Elkhart Product Corporation Water Heater hoses carry a two (2) year warranty against defects in materials and workmanship. Any fitting which proves to be defective will be replaced or a credit issued, but no incidental labor charges, expenses or damages will be allowed.

2.1PIPING MATERIALS

2.2HUB-AND-SPIGOT, CAST-IRON SOIL PIPE AND FITTINGS

Pipe and fittings in this article are available in NPS2 to NPS15 (DN50 to DN375).

  1. Pipe and Fittings: ASTMA74, [Service] [and] [Extra Heavy] classes.
  2. Gaskets: ASTMC564, rubber.
  3. Calking Materials: ASTMB29, pure lead and oakum or hemp fiber.

2.3HUBLESS, CAST-IRON SOIL PIPE AND FITTINGS

Pipe in first paragraph below is available in NPS1-1/2 to NPS15 (DN40 to DN375).

Retain one or more of three paragraphs below. If retaining more than one, indicate location of each type on Drawings. Couplings in first paragraph below are economical and are made in NPS1-1/2 to NPS15 (DN40 to DN375). They may not be suitable for installation in corrosive soil.

Fittings in first paragraph below are available in NPS1-1/4 to NPS8 (DN32 to DN200).

  2. Steel-Pipe Pressure Fittings:

2.5DUCTILE-IRON PIPE AND FITTINGS

Retain one of three paragraphs below. Piping in first paragraph below is available in NPS3 to at least NPS24 (DN80 to at least DN600).

  1. Ductile-Iron, Mechanical-Joint Piping:
  2. Ductile-Iron Pipe: AWWAC151/A21.51, with mechanical-joint bell and plain spigot end unless grooved or flanged ends are indicated.
  3. Ductile-Iron Fittings: AWWAC110/A21.10, mechanical-joint ductile- or gray-iron standard pattern or AWWAC153/A21.53, ductile-iron compact pattern.
  4. Glands, Gaskets, and Bolts: AWWAC111/A21.11, ductile- or gray-iron glands, rubber gaskets, and steel bolts.

Piping in first paragraph below is available in NPS3 to NPS64 (DN80 to DN1600).

  1. Ductile-Iron, Push-On-Joint Piping:
  2. Ductile-Iron Pipe: AWWAC151/A21.51, with push-on-joint bell and plain spigot end unless grooved or flanged ends are indicated.
  3. Ductile-Iron Fittings: AWWAC110/A21.10, push-on-joint ductile- or gray-iron standard pattern or AWWAC153/A21.53, ductile-iron compact pattern.
  4. Gaskets: AWWAC111/A21.11, rubber.

Piping in paragraph below is available in NPS3 to NPS64 (DN80 to DN1600).

  1. Grooved Mechanical Couplings for Ductile-Iron Pipe: ASTMF1476, TypeI. Include ferrous housing sections with continuous curved keys; EPDM-rubber center-leg gasket suitable for hot and cold water; and bolts and nuts.

2.6COPPER TUBE AND FITTINGS

Tube and fittings in first two paragraphs below are available in NPS1-1/4 to NPS8 (DN32 to DN200).

  1. Copper DWV Tube: ASTMB306, drainage tube, drawn temper.
  2. Copper Drainage Fittings: ASMEB16.23, cast-copper fittings or ASMEB16.29, wrought-copper, solder-joint fittings.
  3. Basis-of-Design Product: Subject to compliance with requirements, provide products by Elkhart Products Corporation or comparable product by one of the following:

1)NIBCO INC.

2)Lee Brass.

3)Insert manufacturer's name>.

Tube and fittings in first three paragraphs below are available in NPS1/4 to NPS12 (DN8 to DN300) and unions are available in NPS1/2 to NPS4 (DN15 to DN100).

  1. Hard Copper Tube: ASTMB88, TypeL (ASTMB88M, TypeB), water tube, drawn temper.

  1. Copper Push-on-Joint Fittings, ASSE 1061:

2.7ABS PIPE AND FITTINGS

Pipe and fittings in this article are available in NPS1-1/4 to NPS6 (DN32 to DN150). Retain one or both of first two paragraphs below and coordinate with "Piping Schedule" Article.

  1. Solid-Wall ABS Pipe: ASTMD2661, Schedule40.
  2. Cellular-Core ABS Pipe: ASTMF628, Schedule40.
  3. ABS Socket Fittings: ASTMD2661, made to ASTMD3311, drain, waste, and vent patterns.
  4. Solvent Cement: ASTMD2235.

Subparagraph below applies to LEED 2009 NC, CI, and CS; LEEDv4; IgCC; and Green Globes. VOC content limit is that for ABS welding compounds.

  1. Solvent cement shall have a VOC content of 325g/L or less.

Subparagraph below applies to LEED 2009 for SchoolsCreditIEQ4.1.

  1. Solvent cement shall comply with the testing and product requirements of the California Department of Public Health's "Standard Method for the Testing and Evaluation of Volatile Organic Chemical Emissions from Indoor Sources Using Environmental Chambers."
