1.3ACTION SUBMITTALS

  1. Product Data: For each type of product.
  2. Shop Drawings: For photoluminescent egress path markings.
  3. Include plans, elevations, and details.
  4. Samples: For each exposed product and for each color and texture specified, 6 inches (150 mm) long or full size.

1.4INFORMATIONAL SUBMITTALS

  1. Product Test Reports: For luminance level of photoluminescent egress path markings, for tests performed by a qualified testing agency.
  2. Sample Warranties: For special warranties.

1.5WARRANTY

When warranties are required, verify with Owner's counsel that warranties stated in this article are not less than remedies available to Owner under prevailing local laws.

  1. Manufacturer's Warranty: Manufacturer agrees to replace photoluminescent egress path markings that fail in materials or workmanship within specified warranty period.
  2. Failure includes, but is not limited to, decline in luminance below specified brightness level.
  3. Warranty Period: 20 years from date of Substantial Completion.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS

2.1PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS

Requirements in "Luminance" Paragraph below are based on the IBC; confirm with authorities having jurisdiction.

  1. Luminance: Comply with one of the following; testing by a qualified testing agency:
  2. ASTME2072; except that the charging source shall be 1fc (11lux) of fluorescent illumination for 60 minutes, and the minimum luminance shall be 30 millicandelas/sq.m after 10 minutes and 5 millicandelas/sq.m after 90 minutes.

2.2PHOTOLUMINESCENT EGRESS PATH MARKINGS

  1. Photoluminescent Egress Path Markings: Photoluminescent products containing no radioactive materials and requiring no electrical power.

Retain "Basis-of-Design Product" Subparagraph and list of manufacturers below to require a specific product or a comparable product from manufacturers listed.

  1. Basis-of-Design Product: Subject to compliance with requirements, provide Jalite, Inc.; IBC Compliant Egress Path Markingsor comparable product by one of the following:
  2. American PERMALIGHT, Inc.
  3. Balco, Inc.
  4. Everglow NA, Inc.

  5. Obstacle Marking: 1.2 inch (30 mm) wide, self-adhesive stripe with alternating diagonal bands of black and photoluminescent material.

Retain one of two "Door Frame Markings" paragraphs below.

Retain first option in first "Door Frame Markings" Paragraph for Jalite's "VT1003"; second, for "VT1005."

Signs required by "Exit Signs" Paragraph below are for photoluminescent egress path requirements only; they do not meet requirements for emergency exit signs and lighting in other parts of the IBC.

  1. Exit Signs: Rigid plastic or aluminum sign for low-level mounting, with emergency exit symbol complying with NFPA170[;with self-adhesive backing]; with a minimum height of 4 inches (102 mm); and with running man symbol facing right or left to suit installation condition.
  2. Rigid PVC: Symbol [facingright][man facing left]; [6 by 6 inches (150 by 150 mm)].
  3. Basis-of-Design Product: Subject to compliance with requirements, provide Jalite, Inc.; AAA[487CR] [488CR] or comparable product.
  4. Aluminum: Running man facing [right] [left]; 6 by 6 inches (150 by 150 mm).
  5. Basis-of-Design Product: Subject to compliance with requirements, provide Jalite, Inc.; SBA[487C] [488C]or comparable product.
  6. Extruded Aluminum: ASTMB221 (ASTMB221M), Alloy6063.

Subparagraph below applies to LEED 2009 NC, CI, and CS; LEEDv4; IgCC; ASHRAE189.1; and Green Globes. VOC content limit is that for multipurpose construction adhesives.

  1. Adhesives shall have a VOC content of [70] <Insert valueg/L or less.

Subparagraph below applies to LEED 2009 for SchoolsCreditIEQ4.1and LEED4.

  1. Adhesive shall comply with the testing and product requirements of the California Department of Public Health's "Standard Method for the Testing and Evaluation of Volatile Organic Chemical Emissions from Indoor Sources Using Environmental Chambers."

Subparagraph below applies to IgCC.

  1. Adhesive shall comply with the testing and product requirements of the California Department of Public Health's "Standard Method for the Testing and Evaluation of Volatile Organic Chemical Emissions from Indoor Sources Using Environmental Chambers." Formaldehyde emissions shall not exceed 9 mcg/cu.m or 7 ppb, whichever is less.

Subparagraph below applies to ASHRAE189.1.

  1. Adhesive shall comply with the testing and product requirements of the California Department of Public Health's "Standard Method for the Testing and Evaluation of Volatile Organic Chemical Emissions from Indoor Sources Using Environmental Chambers."

Subparagraph below applies to Green Globes.

  1. Adhesive shall comply with the testing and product requirements of the California Department of Public Health's "Standard Method for the Testing and Evaluation of Volatile Organic Chemical Emissions from Indoor Sources Using Environmental Chambers." The building concentration of formaldehyde shall not exceed half of the indoor recommended exposure limit, or 33 mcg/cu.m, and that of acetaldehyde shall not exceed 9 mcg/cu.m.

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.1PREPARATION

  1. Comply with manufacturer's written instructions for surface preparation.
  2. Clean and prepare surfaces to achieve a smooth, dry, clean surface free of flaking, unsound coatings, cracks, defects, projections, depressions, and substances that could impair bond between photoluminescent egress path markings and wall or floor surfaces.

3.2INSTALLATION

  1. General: Install photoluminescent egress path markings in accordance with manufacturer's written instructions.
  2. Install aluminum nosings with adhesive and mechanical fasteners.
