Section 3: Event Information

Taster Sessions - These classes give students an opportunity to try their hand at blowing a small clear glass vessel and dish, and experience the unique problems that working with molten glass pose. The evening/morning will include basic glassmaking techniques such as marvering and blowing. Morning sessions start at 9.30am and are approximately 3 to 3 1/2 hours long. You can keep everything that you make, although you will not be able to take it home with you on the day because it has to anneal overnight. Class size - maximum 4 people.

Glass blowing is potentially dangerous. You will be given a safety talk before the session begins and you will be expected to listen and act on the instructions.

WARNING

At the risk of stating the obvious, glass blowing is physically demanding. If you struggle to do any physical exercise, can't run up the stairs or bend, crouch and stand up easily, then this is probably not for you. It can be dangerous for me, you and your fellow participants if you can not control the blowing irons easily and for the whole duration of your 'go's'. If you have a disability or medical condition which affects you in any way, please discuss this with us before you book. If you have a hearing impediment be advised that the workshop has a high level of background noise which can make it very difficult to hear any instructions, and so making the session potentially dangerous for yourself, the other participants and me!. Unfortunately, if you wear a hearing aid we would advise you that glass blowing is not a good idea. We do reserve the right, on the evening or day, to not allow you to take part in the session if we feel, in view of health and safety, that you are not going to be safe. We have had to turn a couple of people away in the past as they had not made us aware of their situation in advance. You will be given a short talk about safety before you start the lesson and you will be expected to follow these instructions at all times.Participants must be 18 years of age and above.
