KANSAS SOARING ASSOCIATION

NOVEMBER, 2008

From the Pres

About this time last year you may remember me making some comments about how poor a year it had been for our soaring activities. Well, last year was great compared to this year. I only made two flights in my Pik all summer, and neither one was over an hour long. Really makes the per hour costs high when you only have two flights to amortize all the fixed costs against. I haven’t seen any of the towplane, Grob, or WSA numbers yet but my guess is that they will all be down significantly. At least we didn’t wear out any of the equipment from excessive use.

The KSA 2009-2010 election results are listed elsewhere in this issue. A special thanks to all those who were willing to run and serve the organization if elected. All of the results were very close. No one won by more than a couple of votes

If you haven‘t heard yet, Bill Seed has put Sunflower up for sale. Anyone got an extra $1.9 million laying around that you would consider investing in a slightly used airbase?

Due to the economy it may take years before anything happens, but we should at least start thinking about our options. We may be able to stay at Sunflower with the new owner. Other options include Kingman, Harper, Norwich or even consolidating at the Wichita Glider Port. Every option has different pros and cons. A fitting challenge for the new president.

Ed Note: We have lost track of where we are: among what we’re sure we should have is information on a really slick Ka6 for sale. Send us an email soon, & we’ll forward to our esubscribers. This is an open invitation. RGS
