Second Grade Musical Costume Suggestions

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We are getting closer to our musical entitled “Wackadoo Zoo!” The performance of this musical will be on Thursday, April 7th at 1:15 P.M. and 7:00 P.M. Remember, attendance is MANDATORY. If your child will be unable to attend a performance (including the evening one), a note from the parents must be sent in as soon as possible so that other arrangements to cover your child’s part can be made. The students will need to arrive at 6:40 for the evening performance.

Below are some ideas for your child’s costume. This can be as simple or as elaborate as you wish! You do not have to follow any of these suggestions exactly- these are simply some ideas to get you started. I would recommend doing a google search (ex: child’s lion costume) or a google image search (ex: child’s goat costume) to get some visuals and directions on how to put it together. I found a lot of good stuff when googling these costume ideas!

·  Lions: Tan, khaki, or brown colored shirts and pants. To create mane: Get a piece of felt or fabric and (furry would be good) and cut it into a hood shape. To create tail: use a long tube or wire hanger, cover with tan felt or paper, and add black or brown yarn at the end. Could add mittens and socks with ‘claws’ sewed on. You could use brown felt, yarn, or ribbon to create these any of items. (Do a google search for specific ideas)

·  Monkeys: Wear all brown. Get a piece of felt or paper (tan color), cut it into an oval, and sew or tape it onto the brown shirt. Add monkey ears (a headband with tan ovals attached- pipe cleaners and fabric or cardboard), a tail (brown felt wrapped around a wire hanger), and could add brown gloves, and/ or long ‘toes’ sewed on brown socks. (Do a google search for specific ideas)

·  Pigs: Head to toe pink, head to toe white, or head to toe black. Add small pig ears (Get a headband, pipe cleaners, fabric or paper and add an oval pink circle with a smaller white circle inside), a curly tail (pink felt wrapped around a wire hanger) and could add pink or darker mittens and feet both shaped to look like hooves. (Do a google search for specific ideas)

·  Goats: Head to toe white (shirt and pants) or head to toe brown, brown tail (brown felt wrapped around a wire hanger), ears with horns (use a headband, pipe cleaners, brown and tan fabric, and cut into the shapes below), and could add gloves or hooves or a white beard. (Do a google search for specific ideas)

·  Cows: Head to toe white (shirt and pants) and add black spots all over, tail (white felt wrapped around wire hanger with black spots and black fur or thread at the end), ears (use a headband and pipe cleaners, black and pink felt and cut it into the shape below), could add mittens or hooves. (Do a google search for specific ideas)

·  Professor and Assistants- Professional looking clothes- suit, nice dress or top and skirt, could add a white lab coat.

·  Everyone else: You may choose any of the ideas listed above on either page (EXCEPT for the Professor and Assistants), or you may choose any animal you’d like! It doesn’t have to be a cow, goat, pig, monkey, or lion. Any animal at all is fine! If you would like to dress as something that stays in line with our musical but is not listed above, that will also work! For example, if narrators would like to dress in fancy clothes (like a suit), or your child would like to dress like a zookeeper, that is absolutely fine!

Please remember: you do not have to follow any of these ideas exactly. There are no strict rules when it comes to costumes. Costumes will need to be finished and turned into school by Tuesday, April 5th. Please let us know if you are having difficulty ( or ) and we will help you come up with something. A copy of this letter can be found on the music website- it will be in color, and you can enlarge the pictures.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Rife and Mrs. Schiffler
