Step 1: Initial Setup

¨ Set up at least 3 new Gmail accounts so that you can rotate your ad postings with these accounts. Make sure that all of your Gmail accounts all have the same password to prevent any confusion.

¨ Using those 3 Gmail accounts then set up 3 new Craigslist accounts and record the confirmation telephone number that you use to verify the craigslist accounts. Then use 3 of those accounts each day to post your 3 ads a day in different cities. And then create a list of these accounts with the password next to them. ALWAYS use a different Craigslist account as you post the ads each day. Each of your 3 Craigslist accounts should be setup and recorded as follows:

Tip: Don’t try reinventing the wheel. This craigslist posting system works and can enable you to earn a consistent income. Follow the directions and you will make money. Try to do it “your way” and you will not. It’s that simple.

Step 2: Getting Ready To Place Your Ad

Tip: Before you post and ad, always call the phone number listed in your ad to make sure it works.

¨ Post your ad in a paid city; the response is much greater and the ad will stay up longer. Below is a list of the Craigslist paid cities, all other cities that are not on this list are free:

¨ Always clear your cookies before posting a new ad. If you don’t know how to clear your cookies, go to Google and type in “How do I clear cookies in (Internet Explorer, Firefox or Google Chrome)?”

¨ There are 5 items that should be changed EVERY TIME YOU POST to prevent your ads from being flagged or ghosted. These items are:

Step 3: Posting Your Ad

¨ When actually posting the ad always check ONLY the following buttons:

Look in the sales section. These are good areas for creative headlines.

¨ Don’t be afraid to reinvest in your business.

¨ Insert the information in the location box that is always different. If include information regarding the ability to work from home, it tends to double your calls. If you do this then always use different phrases. Below are different examples of phrases:

Step 4: After Posting The Ad

¨ After posting the paragraph, CLICK ON THE “CONTINUE” BUTTON AND ALWAYS CAREFULLY INSPECT THE AD TO MAKE SURE THE INFORMATION IN THE AD AND YOUR PHONE NUMBER IS BOTH SHOWING AND IS CORRECT!

¨ Always wait for your previous ad to appear before you post another one. You should allow at least an hour to pass before posting again to a new city.

Are Getting Flagged Or Ghosted On Craigslist

1. Change the Craigslist account that you use to post the ad.

2. Clean your cookies frequently.

3. Change the type of ad from image ads (also known as HTML ads) to word ads.

4. Change the toll-free number in your ads.

5. Reduce the length of your headline to no more than 5 words.

6. Eliminate monetary amounts from your headlines.

7. If you are placing ads in paid cities, use a different credit card.

8. Buy an aircard, a hotspot device or your get Internet from another provider or your smart phone to change your IP address.

9. Unplug your router overnight and you should have a different IP address the next morning.

10. Log on to wireless routers that are nearby and are not password protected.

Posting Title

Having a catchy title is a great way to stand out from the other ads. I personally like to keep mine short and sweet. This is something you should always be testing, though. A good idea is capitalizing the first letter of each word, include the nearest major city.

Posting Description Just like anything else in advertising, visually appealing ads can be very advantageous. A well put together HTML ad will likely have a much higher conversion rate than similar plain text ad. However, in order for your ad to convert you first need people to find it. And, I’m proof you don’t need a beautiful ad to have a lot of success with Craigslist.

One way to increase your page views is to have a killer posting title, but that will only get you so far. Another way is to optimize your ad with the right keywords. Unlike Google, Craigslist isn’t as strict when it comes to including a number of keywords in your listing. But, rather than worrying about having to stuff keywords throughout your entire ad, I like to focus on a well-written ad and then include my keywords in smaller font at the bottom, below the fold.

Although Craigslist only delivers listings that match each keyword exactly, that doesn’t mean you’ll need to include every potential search phrase. Just the keywords. By including each keyword separated by a comma, that allows you to match all potential phrase combinations too.

I typically like to post my ads twice a week on Monday and Thursday. Craigslist only allows you to post 3 service ads every 2 days per account, so I like to customize my ad for 3 nearby large cities. Or you could advertise three different services or specials in the nearest major city. Or whatever you like. As long as you’re taking advantage of all three of your available ad slots. Why wouldn’t you, for most categories it’s free!
