CALL TO CONFERENCE
Last year, we held our First Annual Symposium in an attempt to begin answering the question, “As teachers, what can we do—what should we do—to help students make a successful transition from high school to college?” This question is as relevant today as ever, perhaps more so, and once again secondary and post-secondary school teachers from around the Pikes Peak Region will gather in April to focus our attention on Student Success as we continue to explain our curricula to one anotherand to discuss education, teaching, and learning.
We will have the opportunity to take stock of what we have done to work more closely with one another over the past year, and we will continue our conversations about ways to ensure that our students experience a smoother transition from high school to college and greater academic success in general.
And while last year’s conference focused on college level reading andwriting, the Second Annual Pikes Peak Regional Symposium on Student Success broadens our scope to include history, math and foreign languages. In addtion, we will offer sessions on working with new Colorado State standards, concurrent enrollment protocols, students with disabilities, and other topics as indicated below.
Once again, PPCC President Tony Kinkel and the PPCC Foundation generously invite all to participate free of charge. This NO-FEEevent is co-sponsored by the PPCC Writing Center and hosted this year with logistical support provided by School District 11’s Community Prep School: Marty Schneider, Director.
President Kinkel will be writing to district superintendents and building principals within the next few days alerting them to this year’s Symposium and asking their support for our important teacher-to-teacher discussions by encouraging faculty attendance and providing release time on 23 April.
Our limited space may accommodate only the first 150 registrants, so please fill out the registration form (found at the end of this document) and email to to reserve your seat today.
We look forward to another great day of discussion and engagement!
