Second Annual Climate Change Symposium at the Boulder Shambhala Center, September 15 to 17, 2017

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Boulder)Living Beyond Hope and Fear: Warrior Principle, Climate Actionis a symposium presented by the Boulder Shambhala Center, Naropa University’s Joanna Macy Center, and Naropa University’s Authentic Leadership Center

Last year, the Boulder Shambhala Center’s climate change group presented the idea of a gathering of scientists, systems thinkers, and artists coming together for a weekend of engagement with Boulder climate leaders to explore how the Shambhala perspective of enlightened society might create a sound foundation for effective climate action. The idea became a reality. We plan to build on last year’s success at this year’s climate change symposium. Under the guidance of leaders from various wisdom traditions, we’ll explore why bravery is essential for moving forward with this critical work and how appreciating our world and one another can sustain us along the way.”- Melanie Klein, Executive Director of the Boulder Shambhala Center.

Please join us for the second annual climate change symposium as we engage with the ecological and social challenges that arise out of climate change. This forum will provide an opportunity for activists, scientists, artists, students, families, and others to discover and join local climate action initiatives. It also provides an opportunity to dissolve the false sense of separation that causes so much destruction by reconnecting with one’s own humanity, with one another, and with the beauty and fragility of our world.

Our main speakers are Muslim peace activistSaharAlsahlaniand Buddhist Acharya and sustainability leader Marty Janowitz. Rev. Fletcher Harper of GreenFaith will lead an interfaith panel discussion on how to move beyond the exhaustion of hope and fear and create sustained, effective action. The weekend will also include entertainment provided by master storyteller Odds Bodkin and breakout sessions with climate leaders. Join us for community building, engagement, and inspiration for the work ahead.

There will be opportunities for children to participate on Saturday from 9-3:30pm. Student and scholarship pricing is available.
