Chris Taylor and the crew of Fisheads San Juan River Lodge want to thank you all for a great first year in our new location at Navajo Dam. Our restaurant continues to be the talk of the river. We opened late last season so some of you may not be familiar with our great food. We know outdoorsmen keep long hours, and winter fishing on the Juan can be great. We open early and close late all year long, except Christmas day, stop by you will not be disappointed. The Back Cast Cafénow has a banquet room for groups and a full catering menu to go with it. We can now provide a place for your meeting or party, weather the group is large or small. If you’re planning a Thanksgiving trip we will take care of you with a traditional turkey feast.
The fly shop has a new manager, Peggy Harrell-Nesbit. Most of you know Peggy as a guide and expert on equipment, flies and San Juan River fishing techniques. She is always willing to share her knowledge with beginners or seasoned anglers alike. With the holidays closing in on us, we want to remind you to get your orders in for any gifts (to ourselves or to others) you might want to order. This year we have added a stocked fly box to our Christmas inventory; the fly boxes are filled by the dozen, with a variety of wet and dry patterns we recommend for this river. We also carry a wide selection of Orvis rod and reels that are right for any skill level and budget. November is here and the BWO’s are still on fire. This month is one our favorite, the crowds of the fall are gone and usually the weather will hold up until mid-December. This year was especially good for dry fly fishing; we have fished dries almost every day since March. Bubba’s cartoon hoppers or “toons”were our go-to fly on tough days. Bubba now has 12 patterns available through Orvis. Fishead’s now has a guide dedicated to Navajo lake,Capt. Nicole Bridge has completed the training necessary and is our lake guide. She will guide you out of her Ranger Bass boat for Carp, Pike and Smallmouth Bass.
