Dear Parents:

The 2016 NYSSMA (New York State School Music Association) Solo and Ensemble Festival is attended by musicians throughout New York State. This year, the All State Auditions will take place on April 15th and 16that the Kellenberg Memorial HS. Vocal and instrumental students are selected to participate based upon the recommendation of the school music teacher. Listed below is all necessary information covering this festival. Please have your child return the attached sheet and payment if he/she is interested in participating.

PROCESS:

  1. Solo: must be from the current NYSSMA Manual located in each school music office.
  2. Music: all performers must have an original copy of the music to

be performed. Xerox copies are not permitted! Players must have two copies of the music. Most pieces come with the piano accompaniment, which can be used as the second copy for the judge’s use. Check with your school music teacher before buying the solo to see if there is an original copy for your use.

  1. Practice: this is essential for success at the festival. All

performers should practice at home with a private tutor or work with the school music teacher.

  1. Accompaniment: all performers MUST have an accompanist at

their audition. It is the responsibility of the performer to hire

their accompanist. Your music teacher can provide you with the

names of piano players.

  1. Forms: Please make sure that you fill out the NYSSMA form

provided to you by your teacher in order to participate in the

festival!

6. Fees: All State $26.00

NO GRADES WILL BE POSTED AT THE FESTIVAL. GRADES WILL BE SENT TO THE SCHOOL DISTRICT WITHIN A FEW DAYS.
