Sculpture I. Drawing & Painting Crafts & Pottery,

Miss McLaughlin 2015-16

Think of your sketchbook as a visual diary. To keep the steady flow of ideas coming, you must work in it everyday. Practice and improve your skill levels. Be a committed observer everywhere. Don’t rush through- stop. Look. Think. And do!

·  You are expected to work independently at home. This is a homework assignment. You will NOT get credit if you are drawing homework in class!

·  You will complete 9 drawings per marking period, or at LEAST 1 every week. Drawings must have evidence of observation skills and value changes.

·  Draw from life as much as possible.

·  Draw in malls, churches, restaurants, subways, and street corners.

·  Vary your line through pressure.

·  Try to create a sense of energy, intense contrast and use a wide variety of marks. Look for different ideas as well as technical approaches.

·  Anchor figures to the surrounding space through overlapping

·  Integrate perspective with the principles of balance, movement, rhythm, contrast, emphasis, pattern and unity.

You can change the same sketch by:

·  - Drawing close-ups, or 'long-shots'
- changing the light source, direction & intensity, including night-time
- drawing only outlines or including shading & shadows [2-D v/s 3-D effect]
- using different types of pencils, charcoal, &/or colors - water, oil, acrylic, crayons, pencils, glass paints, mosaic-work,
- changing the perspective & angle
- using surrealism, cubism, abstract forms.
Maybe you can go wild ;-)) use diff techniques & media - including pastels, crayons, oils, cut-n-paste, mosaic, cartoon-drawing, symbolism, etc.....
- check out old greeting cards, magazines, net images, comic books, etc. to get some ideas. Use these ideas to create your own drawing.
-

·  You could make a 'series' of any one thing. Different ways of going about it:
flowers - have 15 different types of flowers;
or, have the same flower [i.e., rose] but depicted in different ways -. In close-up, in a garden, with a bee humming over it, as a bouquet, in a dried-petal arrangement [glued] along with dried leaves/herbs, & so on;
or you could change the light source, light intensity, colors [from black n white to monochrome to multicolored]

·
- You could paint a series on school-related stuff. Like the different rooms in your school, or the different articles of school usage, the school colors & emblem, different activities at school, different moods of students at school, & so on.
