SCSU Exercise Science Hosts Runners’ Forum

New Haven, CT: Southern Connecticut State University’s Exercise Science Department is hosting the inaugural Runners’ Forum. The event takes place on Sunday, September 6 from 1-4 pm on the Broadway Triangle across from Trailblazer. The event discusses topics ranging from running, sports nutrition, biomechanics, injury prevention and care and more! In addition, the Faxon Law New Haven Road Race highlights Nulo Pet Food and CCFA Team Challenge.

The Faxon Law New Haven Road Race is introducing the Runners’ Forum to provide runners’ the opportunity to learn about important running topics free of cost. To conclude the Runners’ Forum, the event features a Q&A with the elite athletes racing in this year’s 20K. The Runners’ Forum schedule is as follows:

·  1:00-1:30: Dr. Bill Lunn: “Race Day Nutrition for Runners”

·  1:30-2:00: Dr. Bob Axtell: “Exercise Testing for Exercise Prescription in Runners”

·  2:00-2:30: Dr. Marc Robertson: "Common Running Injuries and Why They Occur”

·  2:30-3:00: Dr. Bob Gregory: “Running Footwear Biomechanics: Choosing the Right Shoe for You”

·  3:00-3:30 pm: Q&A with Olympians Blake Russell and Janet Cherobon-Bawcom

·  3:30-4:00 pm: Q&A with 4-time Olympian Abdi Abrihaman and 2:13 Marathoner Patrick Rizzo

Your mentor, coaches and team manager will guide you through your season and help you to successfully meet your fitness and fundraising goal. Early packet pick-up and registration is available at Trailblazer in New Haven on Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 10am-6pm. Raceday packet pick-up and registration (if available) begins at 6:30 am on the New Haven Green. The Amity Physical Therapy Kids Fun Run kicks off raceday at 8:15 am followed by the 20K and 5K starts at 8:40 am.
