Scotland Junior Girls Squad – 10th March 2016

Summary

It has been a busy couple of months for the Junior Girls Squad with Inter Regions, National Age Groups, training sessions and GB weekends. The Squad is growing in numbers and strength. Rod has taken on the role of Head Coach as Ian focuses on the 1999 GB Girls and St Andrews University. I am grateful to Michael Stuart, Bob Muir and Callum Fraser who have helped to coach and to Fran Collings who has offered to help coach the younger age group.

Training

All training sessions have been well attended. We had two sessions in February and we have one in March. The month of March is largely taken up with competition in the U19 and U17 age group.

Tournaments

Inter Regions – Northampton.

Coach – Rod Hardy

TM – Jennifer Miller

The U19 Scotland girls competed in Division 2 of this regional competition and the results were as follows:

East Region 8 – 8 Scotland

South East 2 – 10 Scotland

North East 7 - 4 Scotland

Ireland 8 -2 Scotland

Wales 8 – 8 Scotland

Carys Hardy won MVP for Scotland.

U19 National Age Groups – Liverpool

Coach – Rod Hardy

TM – Brenda Tate

The girls were playing in Group A and faced the following teams:

City of Manchester 8 – 0 Caledonia

Cheltenham 3 -6 Caledonia

Mid Sussex Marlins 5 – 3 Caledonia

Otter Futura 3 – 5 Caledonia

Exeter 6 – 3 Caledonia

U17 National Age Groups takes place this weekend in Leeds.

Coach - Callum Fraser

TM – Jennifer Miller

BWMF Cup – The girls have entered a 2001 team for the BMWF Cup in Lloret de Mar in September. There will be a mixed 2003 competition which Brian will coordinate.

North Sea Cup – The date has now been confirmed as 3-4th September in Dublin.

Finance

There are a large number of invoices going through at the moment with all the different tournaments taking place. I am working with Charlene and Marilyn to keep on top of this. The finances are relatively healthy at the moment and there are no overdue invoices.

PVG – Jennifer Miller and Allison Smith have PVG through Scottish Swimming to enable them to TM. They have also both completed TM Level 1&2.

Housekeeping

The Scotland Junior Girls has grown substantially in numbers over the past few months due to the success of Neal’s development programme. The age range of the squad is from 1999-2005 and the ability levels vary greatly. We are now able to enter teams in most of the age categories for IR’s and NAGS. This very positive impact on the squad has provided an opportunity to restructure, thus offering other coaches and TM’s an opportunity to be involved.

Head Coach – Rod Hardy

Volunteer Coaches for Training/Competition – Michael Stuart, Bob Muir, Callum Fraser, Elizabeth Butza and Fran Collings

TM National – Joan

TM 2000 & 2001 – Jennifer Miller

TM 2002+ Allison Smith

Joan Dundee

Men Update – March Meeting:

  • The men have 3 sessions arranged for the coming weekend 12/13 Mar; a S&C on Sat morning at Edi Uni followed by 2 waterpolo sessions at the NSA (Sat 6-8pm and Sun 3-30 to 5-30pm). Unfortunately I will be unable to attend all sessions due to ED commitments at the Ed International Swim Meet.
  • Numbers of attendees will be varying due to a range of conflicts in particular BUCS on Saturday and various individuals work commitments and use of holidays for Brit cup weekends.
  • Players will be asked to contribute towards costs (£25 for 3 sessions or £10 per polo session) which should cover pool hire and Rhys travel costs.
  • The core squad for Malta has been selected and the remaining places should be decided after this weekend’s sessions.
  • No information has yet been received from the Maltese regarding accommodation and event organisation.
  • International Permit Application for Malta has been drafted and will be finalised next week once the final places have been allocated.
  • Initial kit sizing has been undertaken but we hope to validate the sizes this weekend with spare trunks and some polo shirts. 2 players have so far transferred £70 kit contribution but I suspect others are waiting to try on before paying.
  • Older juniors are increasingly being invited to attend men’s sessions, starting with those playing, or likely to play, in senior BWPL.
