Accelerated Reader Program (AR)
In order to increase quality outside reading, your child will be participating in an exciting reading program, Accelerated Reader, commonly known as AR. All students will be required to read books from our school list that contains thousands of titles. Students are required to read and test on one book per quarter. Students must choose a book at a reading level appropriate for the individual student. The students’ Language Arts teacher will determine the appropriate level for each student.
To hold students accountable for their reading, each student will be required to take a multiple choice test by the teacher’s assigned date. This test will be calculated in the final grade. Students are not required to keep a log/notes, but if they choose to keep a log or take notes as they read, they can use these to help them on the test. Students who earn below 70% on an AR test will be required, however, to keep a log (chapter-by-chapter summaries) for the next book they read.

For each book, your student will complete, and a parent will sign, an AR Approval Slip that states the following:
· The book listed is on the MCMS AR list.
· The student has never been read or tested on this book before.
· This book is not listed on the “Books That You MAY NOT Read for AR” list. (See back)
· Your student will read and test on this book by the due date assigned.
· As a parent, you have reviewed this book for mature/sexual/violent or otherwise inappropriate
content.
