Scientist, Chemistry

Redx Pharma discovers and develops proprietary, small molecule drugs to address areas of high unmet medical need in cancer and fibrosis. In cancer, we pursue targeted therapies where a biomarker can potentially be used for selecting those patients that are most likely to benefit from therapy, and/or drugs that are designed to disrupt cancer resistance pathways. In fibrosis, we are focused on developing treatments that will stop and reverse the formation of fibrotic tissue. In both therapeutic areas, we aim to develop drugs whose profile suggests they will be best in class, if not first in class.

The Role

Laboratory based position contributing to the discovery of novel pharmaceuticals by providing independent scientific & technical input for the delivery of research programmes.

Responsibilities

  • Apply knowledge & experience to the interpretation of complex synthetic chemistry, biology & DMPK data within the project. Use this data to influence both own work programme & that of others in the chemistry team.
  • Work safely with hazardous chemicals using a broad range of synthetic techniques and reagent types. Sound knowledge of, and competence in, safe handling of hazardous reagents
  • Develop innovation in synthetic route design/medicinal chemistry design and deliver compounds that move the project forward.
  • Independently interpret patents and accurately define and identify relevant prior art.
  • Implement most appropriate technologies to execute complex synthetic research programmes effectively to accelerate delivery of project milestones.
  • Prioritise own workload effectively and assist in trouble shooting synthetic problems within your department.
  • Influence own research and that of others through ideas, questions and hypotheses.
  • Identify opportunities to accelerate research, to enhance value and to create intellectual property.
  • Occasionally review potential drug discovery targets as requested by your line manager and with assistance.
  • Assist in preparing patents and contribute as an inventor.
  • Expand scientific, technical, and drug discovery knowledge by reading the peer reviewed scientific literature and attending scientific conferences.
  • Review COSHH assessments, safety procedures and SOPs as required.
  • Contribute to journal publications, conference presentations and patent applications as appropriate.
  • Communicate synthetic and medicinal chemistry ideas and concepts and summarise data effectively to ensure they are understood by cross disciplinary project team.
