Course Description:

STS offers an opportunity for students to prepare for life beyond high school.

Typically, a student in STS is a hands-on or visual learner that intends to enroll in a technical college or to enter the work force immediately beyond high school. The skills developed include working in teams to accomplish tasks which require problem-solving, while utilizing the available resources.

Power Standards:

  1. Students will be able to develop and perform investigations using available resources to solve posed problems.
  1. Students will address misconceptions and conflicting perceptions related to the physical world, space, and general life philosophies using various methods including: experiments, activities, discussions, research and debate.
  1. Students will experience character building within the STS learning environment.

Classroom rules:

  • Cell Phones & other electronic devices:
  • Do not use cell phones in class unless otherwise specified.
  • No iPod or other electronic device use during instructional time and by request.
  • Too tempted??? Check electronics at the door.
  • No food in science lab for health reasons.

Tardy Policy:

  • 4th Tardy = Immediate Saturday detention
  • Bring a pass- if you’re late.

Grading:

  • Overall grading scale is provided.
  • Grades are based upon total points earned out of total points possible.

Grading Scale:

90% = A-

80% = B-

70% = C-

60% = D-

Graduation requirements:

  • 6 science credits are required
  • 1 credit is earned for each successful semester of STS
  • STS is not a college preparatory class – it’s preparation for life…
