Congestion outside the school gates and surrounding roads / Yes. Although by increasing the number of Out of Hours clubs we are staggering the school day for more parents.
Persistent parking on zigzags, over driveways / Yes. Have involved Community Police Officers and this works well when they are able to be present.
Traffic travelling very fast down Warren Road / Yes. Investigating SLOW DOWN signs
Pavements into Warren Road entrance very congested. / Yes. Discussed at School Council
Cars parking on pavements / No – Communication to parent has proved effective
Parking on both sides of Warren Road restricts view and leads to traffic congestion / Yes. We have increased our Park & Stride scheme but huge pupil numbers continue to make this a problem
Heavy traffic crossing from Repton Road into & across Sevenoaks Road / No – Crossing now in place. Has made a significant improvement.
Very dangerous crossing opposite Gleeson Drive entrance. Parents with children and buggies feel very vulnerable and unsafe / No – as above

Staff Survey Results

  • The majority of staff have always travelled to school by car. However a few more now car share instead.

  • Many staff would like to be able to drive, walk or cycle to school.

Objectives and Targets

Original targets/Aims

  • Continue to take part in WoW scheme to reduce car use – yes we have continued with the WoW scheme on a monthly basis as usual
  • Increase park & stride – identify locations – 5 mins walk per day aim – we have been successfully promoting park and stride at our school where possible
  • Increase cycling – younger children if accompanied by adult – yes cycling has increased slightly or at least been maintained at the current level
  • Continue safety talks for Year 2 – include Reception and Yr 1 with motorised car – speak to Derek Holmes, RSO – yes we have had road safety talks with our road safety officer
  • Introduce traffic awareness to years 5/6 though curriculum based subjects – data, surveys, speed gun work – Derek Holmes, RSO – still to be done
  • Promote Junior Road Safety Officer roles – yes our junior road safety officers are very active in the school community
  • Introduce road safety to years 3/4 via curriculum – yes road safety has been introduced
  • Promote walking – whole school – yes through Walking the World
  • To promote school plan - yes helped by Junior Road Safety Officers
