Dear Parents,
The “Parent’s Right to Know” provision of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) requires that the Title I participating schools notify parents when their child has been taught for four (4) or more consecutive weeks by a teacher who has not met the applicable state certification for licensure requirements at the grade level and subject area in which the teacher has been assigned.
Your child’s teacher (insert teacher’s name) currently holds a teaching certificate in (insert certification area) and is teaching out of his/her field in (insert teaching assignment). There are many reasons a teacher may be teaching out of field. Some subject areas have many requirements such as requiring certification in both regular education subjects and special education subjects. Also, some subject area teachers in secondary schools may be required to be certified as reading teachers as well as general education teachers. These teachers are striving to become certified in their teaching field. The school district supports teachers in meeting certification requirements by offering staff development opportunities, tuition reimbursement and certification test fee reimbursements.
For those schools receiving federal (Title I) funding, parents may request information on teachers’ college majors, degrees held, degrees outside their area of certification, whether the teacher is teaching under provisional status, and whether the teacher has met state qualifications for the grade levels and subject areas they are teaching. You may also request information on qualifications of non-instructional staff that may be providing services to your child. If you wish to receive this information you must contact the school principal.

La estipulación “El Derecho de Saber de los Padres” del Acta “Cada Estudiante Obtiene Éxito” (ESSA) requiere que las escuelas que participan en los programas de Título I notifiquen a los padres de los estudiantes que hayan recibido instrucción (por más de cuatro semanas consecutivas) por maestros que no tienen la certificación de la licencia de Florida requerida para el grado y la materia asignada al maestro.
El maestro de su hijo(a) (insert teacher’s name) actualmente tiene un certificado de maestro en (insert certification area) y está enseñando fuera de su especialidad en (insert teaching assignment). Pudieran haber muchos motivos para que un maestro esté trabajando fueran de su campo regular. Algunas materias tienen muchos requisitos tal como el de estar certificado en educación regular también como en las materias de educación especial. Estos maestros pretenden conseguir los certificados para los cursos que están enseñando. El distrito escolar apoya los esfuerzos de los maestros de cumplir con los requisitos de certificación, ofreciéndoles oportunidades de desarrollo profesional, reembolso de colegiaturas y cuotas de prueba de certificación.
En aquellas escuelas que reciben fondos federales de Título I, los padres pueden solicitar información sobre el tipo de licenciatura, título o grado que tienen los maestros o si ellos han cumplido con los requisitos de la Florida para los grados y las materias que enseñan. Usted puede solicitar información sobre las cualificaciones del personal que no instruyen a los alumnos que puedan estarles proporcionando servicio a sus hijos.
