SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT PLANNING CYCLE

At St Andrew’s CE Primary School the improvement, target setting, assessment and monitoring cycles are inextricably linked. They come together for one purpose, raising standards.

The Governors have in place a long term strategic vision for the school

The cycle:

JULY/SEPT: The SMT meet to start to review the school’s achievements and analysis of whole school results and begin to formulate a draft plan and targets.

OCT: Curriculum co-ordinators are closely involved in the process through their monitoring and evaluating role eg. (annual reviews). In October co-ordinators review their previous 12 month plan and then write a new targeted 12 month plan.

(These plans will be shared with governors at staff/governor liaison meetings.)

The SMT then draft the new School Improvement Plan which includes issues from coordinator development plans. Performance Management information is used to inform the final draft. The INSET development targets are also added to the plan. The Governors identify some key strategic priorities (Vision) for the coming 12 months. The plan is then financed according to the priorities. The plan is then shared with staff and Governors.

NOV: Headteacher drafts an annual assessment report which is reported to staff and governors.

The final draft of the SIP is presented to the Curriculum Sub-Committee for ratification

NOV-JULY: Plan is implemented

In developing our school improvement plan we have been taken into account the following:

¨  Actions not achieved in last year’s school improvement plan are identified, and prioritised again, if still valid.

¨  Performance management information is built into the plan.

¨  Areas for improvement identified in our Monitoring and Evaluating cycle.

¨  Areas for improvement identified by curriculum co-ordinators in their annual curriculum reviews and annual action plans.

¨  Areas for improvement identified by our analysis of achievement and progress data

¨  The INSET programme complements areas for improvement identified in our school development plan.
