AGENDA

School Improvement Plan: Review progress and document

  • The data that measures progress toward goal 1 & 2 will be considered once the MOY assessments are completed.

Goal 1: In grades 3rd-8th, targeted subgroups will increase in proficiency as measured on the NC End-of-Grade Reading and Math assessments.

  • Use the professional learning community framework to drive instructional decisions at Silk Hope School
  • Use an intervention/enrichment block to support core instruction
  • Strengthen core balanced literacy instruction by providing teachers in grades K-2 professional development in the five components of an effective reading program: phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary development, fluency, and comprehension strategies.
  • A consultant visited and did a walk through to provide feedback and how to strengthen the core balanced literacy instruction.
  • Would like to send K-5 teachers to visit school to see Daily 5 and Café as it is fully implemented. The consultant may come back to consider implementing Daily 5 in classrooms next year.

Goal 2: In grades kindergarten-5th, 80% of the students will score proficient as measured on the End-of-Year mClass TRC reading assessments.

  • Recipe for Reading will be implemented in all grades k-5.
  • Create a structure within the literacy block to focus which focuses on writing (and responding to reading through writing).
  • Hold a series of family literacy nights (3) for K-5 parents to increase their capacity to support their child's reading growth at home.

Goal 3: Develop and implement a school wide Tier I behavior plan that will be implemented in 100% of the classrooms.

  • Review and update the current school behavior practices.
  • Explore the Leader in Me/7 Habits principles, the impact on student achievement, and the cost to the school and work with decide if we want to become a Leader in Me school.
  • There are some “Leader in Me” symposiums coming up and looking at sending some staff that has did not participate last year. There are “Leadership” days coming up at schools that staff may also visit.
  • Could proceed with or without PTA funds but prefer to have PTA support.

Capital Outlay

  • The annual request is coming due. Team members asked to discuss with groups to provide feedback to Angie directly.

Questions/Concerns:

  • Ideas for keeping our campus cleaner? The amount of wayward trash, etc. seems to have grown over the past few months (for example, food wrappers in plant beds, papers, etc. near curb areas, paper towels on restroom floors, writing on restroom stalls, etc.).
  • Discussed ways to improve including considering a “clean classroom/best bathroom/cleanest hall” recognition. Will consider as part of PBIS.
  • Discussed need for playground equipment that is appropriate and safe for students with physical needs.
  • The copiers are continually jammed/broken, and as a consequence, backed up. It is extremely frustrating and time consuming.
  • Will check to see if we have/will create a log on the number of times we have had to call for service. Need to make sure that trained to work/fix the machines when there is a jam.
  • Was there feedback from the ASIS team visit?
  • Feedback will be shared in PLC meetings next week. Those who do not typically meet with PLCs will be invited to one of those sessions. Overall the visit was positive and recognized that everyone is working hard.
