School Community Council Meeting Minutes – September 14, 2016

1. Welcome and Introductions
- The meeting was called to order by Tricia Morton at 7:37pm
2. Adoption of the Agenda and minutes
- Adopted as presented by Brenna Kampen
3. Treasurer’s Report
- Treasurers report read Tricia on behalf of Kim Hawkins
- Grand total $24 675.67
- Grant $1088.89
- Fundraiser $126.00
- Playground fundraiser $23 472.03
- Bills paid – Picnic tables $545.60
- concrete $660.00
- Aztec construction(playground installer) $3780
- Playground fundraised money was all to go through Sun West, in the end will pay balance to Sun West.
- Farm Credit Canada gave a grant for $10 000. We can’t complete CIF until done with rest of money. All playground has to be finished by December 2016 for the CIF grant.
- Sun West holding grant money and cheques.
MOTION / THAT the Treasurer’s Report be adopted as presented.

4. Principal’s Report
- School goal this year of writing.
- Working on rubric to assess students from grades 1-6 by writing sample.
- Improve through Open House/fun night on November 17. And Writing fun day March 23.
- Kelsey will be leading kids to write and perform plays in May
- Literature day will also meet goal.
- Reflection of events have kids write about things they have done.
- Author day.
- Budget will be about $10 000 - $12 000
- Discussion on sound system and curtains for. Jason will get a quote on sound system.
- PEBL blended learning. Highly motivating for kids. Classroom set up different. Highly motivating for kids
Teachers Report: Elaina Cordes
- Kindergarten working on biological awareness until December then phonetical awareness, blending syllables/segmented words, Grade one doing Mathletics, etc.
- RAZ kids and reading one on one with teacher.
- Megan Aylward new EA
- Using computer and iPad
5. Old Business
5.1 Updates on SCC Events
- Grand Opening/Open House
- Tricia – Lead (Brenna, Krystle, Heidi)
- Have a picnic style supper
- Invite sponsors, families, community
- RSVP list needed for caterer, estimating possible 100-150 people $15/person
- Helium balloons
- Bring Chairs
- Possible speeches from Jason and Robert Dewey
- $500 for food, grant budget was $2000.
- Held October 20th - RSVP by September 30

5.4. Teacher Appreciation
- Home and school would like to ask SCC to take over Teacher appreciation week.
- Carolyn and Krista will take on this event.
6.0. New Business
6.1. Donor Board Sign

6.2. $10 000 for Playground
- Lumberjack Contracting – Dave Matchett gave quote for sidewalk to join onto the existing pavement.
- Labor $2500-$3000
- Materials
- Concrete $1553
- Total quote: $5201.20
- Sun West will pay dollar for dollar.
- Kindersley concrete made a verbal offer to donate
- May cost us around $3000 total.

6.2. Sledding on Hill
- Discussion on safety
- Decision to use hill for sliding left up to teachers
- Snow fence could be used to block path to new equipment on playground
6.3. Painting mural on outside walls of library

- November 9th meeting moved to November 2.
