School Board Notes

The Beaver Valley Intermediate Unit Board of Directors held their regularly scheduled meeting on Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at 7:30 P.M.

Members Present: Mr. Angus, Mr. Bovalino, Ms. Cook, Mr. Oswald, Mr. Ross, Mr. Bufalini, Mr. Yanyanin, Mr. Carver, Ms. Robbins and Mr. McGeehan

Members Absent: Mr. Henderson, Mr. Gilarno, Mr. Jarovich, and Mrs. Acon

Others Present: Dr. Rosendale, Dr. Italia, Attorney Al Steff, Mrs. Deitch, Ms. Weldon, Mrs. Murtha, Mr. Huchko, Mrs. Verma and Mrs. Ference

Action Taken:

1.  The Board appointed Ms. Regan Weldon as the Director of Special Education effective September 1, 2014.

2.  Mrs. Melissa Niedbala, Head Teacher at New Horizon School, will be responsible for the day-to-day operation at New Horizon School for the 2014-2015 school year.

3.  The Board employed Ms. Carol Roossin, McDonald Street, Sewickley, to fill a vacancy on the Training and Consultation Staff.

4.  The Board employed Ms. Melissa Hardesty, Foxwood Road, Wampum, as a Speech Pathologist.

5.  The Board employed Ms. Andrea Garmen, Fifth Street, Beaver Falls, PA, to fill a vacancy on the Special Pupil Services Staff.

6.  In order to fill vacancies on the Special Pupil Services Staff, the Board employed the following persons as paraprofessionals:

a.  Ms. Krystelle Fisher, Cannelton Road, Darlington, PA

b.  Ms. Nancy Pratt, State Route 152, Richmond, OH

7.  The Board employed Ms. Kinsey Gilbreath, Laura Drive, Clinton, as the Secretary to the Director of Educational Innovation and the Director of Online Professional Development, effective July 28, 2014.

8.  The Board approved a contract renewal with Carnegie Mellon University for Internet2 Network Connectivity.

9.  The Board adopted the Free and Reduced Price Lunch Guidelines for the 2014-2015 school year.

Correspondence – A letter from Ms. Patricia Hozella, Pennsylvania Department of Education.

Executive Director’s Report - None

Solicitor’s Report – Nothing to report.

Other Business – The Board adopted a Memorandum of Understanding with the Beaver County Education Association.

A tentative Collective Bargaining Agreement has been reached with the Beaver County Education Association.

The Board approved the recommendation to put out to bid the 2009 E150 cargo van with the lowest bid being no less than $10,000. The van is in really good condition and has 37,000 miles.

Ms. Weldon thanked the Board for their vote of confidence and stated that she is ready to begin her new position.
