SLO’s
- Sylvia has been very impressed with staff SLO’s and has discussed any concerns at Data Team meetings
- Classroom teachers are responsible to enter SLO information into LinkIt by 11/30. Teachers are encouraged to attend work sessions offered through the district on Avatar to learn how to do this.
Professional Development Opportunities
- P.D. on Saturday, 11/9 at School 50 is from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Focus is on Looking at Student Work and the Elementary Report Card. Suzanne Newton will be there to answer questions and provide support to teachers while they are working in the Power Teacher system.
Constituent Concerns
Parent Constituent Concerns
- Who do parents direct questions to about Parent Connect? Sylvia stated a need for staff to be trained how to use it. Goal is to get it up and running this year and possibly use a Saturday P.D. session to train staff members.
- Question was asked about whether or not Parent Connect will be available to service providers. Sylvia will inquire more.
- Question was also raised about whether or not teachers are allowed to give classroom phone extensions to parents. Sylvia responded that classroom instruction should not be interrupted by parent calls during the day. Sylvia is willing to give parents her cell phone number if parents need to contact teachers. Parents are also encouraged to leave voice messages for teachers so that teachers can respond immediately during a non-instructional time.
- Many parents are having difficulty helping children with math homework. We would like to see the district offer opportunities for parents to see how we are teaching the math curriculum so that they can better help their children.
Teacher’s Assistant & Paraprofessional Concerns
- None
Teacher Constituent Concerns (including instructional items that were taken to Building Committee)
- Progress Reports for Special Ed. Teachers and service providers were supposed to be input into the system on 11/7 and due to Amy on Friday, 11/8. Kim Brock is looking into extending the deadline to 11/13.
- Report Card concerns: intermediate teachers having difficulty entering comments other than the ones included in the drop-down menu options. More information to come at Saturday training.
- RTI plans in AIMSweb should be printed out for parents and included with the report card.
- Time of day that healthy snack is dropped off is inconsistent and sometimes disruptive to instruction. Mr. Smith is taking care of healthy snacks since cafeteria staff is not allowed to distribute them. They should be distributed between 9:30-10:05 on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Wednesday delivery will befrom 8:10-8:45. Kim Brock to talk to Mr. Smith about separating the snacks per classroom so that classrooms do not have to share boxes of snacks.
Administrative Constituent Concerns
- None
New Business
Review SCEP Document & Highlights/Prep for State Visit Interviews (12/10-12/13)
- Copies of SCEP Highlightswere included in the yellow, “opening day” folder given to teachers. Copies were also given to parents at Open House. We all must be aware of what is included in our SCEP plan since state representatives will ask questions about it. Kim Brock will make additional copies of the SCEP highlight plan if you need one!
- Representatives from the state will interview all stakeholders (teachers, parents, SBPT, administrators, etc.)
- EVERYONE NEEDS TO BE ABLE TO ARTICULATE THE SCHOOL #50 VISION AND MISSION STATEMENTS!!! PLEASE PRACTICE DAILY WITH STUDENTS AND COLLEAGUES
- Things to know: We are a FOCUS school sighted for the gap in achievement between general ed. and special ed. students; gap between achievement of general ed. and ELL’s; disproportionality
- Parents questioned what to expect in the interviews. Kim explained that it is a time to share celebrations as well as concerns. Representatives may call parents to set up an interview. Sylvia will also try to get out a power point or handout to parents to know what to expect.
- Our goal in our SCEP is for 85% of students to be meeting or exceeding grade level standards and become college and career ready. Our current overall average of students meeting standards in ELA for grades 3-6 for ELA is 9.2%, and 9.3% in Math.
- Grade levels will be receiving additional support for students needing Tier 3 interventions. Schedules for Corey Hepburn and Theresa Kench are currently being created and discussed at Data Team meetings with staff in order to close gaps and reach our SCEP goal.
- “Know your standards; teach the standards, your kids will be fine!” (Anita Murphy)
