Environmental Intern

The position duration is approximately 3 months, startingin mid-June and ending in mid-September. You must be able to commit to working 30-40 hours per week during the entire period to be eligible.

Primary Duties include:

This internship will provide hands-on experience with many aspects of monitoring and managing flood protection facilities, habitat restoration projects, and other lands within the King County inventory. This internship will include a mix of field work and office work. The intern will assist ecologists and biologists with data collection for vegetation and fish monitoring, assist with field surveys of large wood, perform inspections of flood protection facilities, assist field crews with vegetation maintenance and noxious weed control, collect and compile land management property data (acquisition, historical repair, maintenance, and inspection activities) in spreadsheet and GIS databases, perform GIS analyses, assist in the preparation of property inspection plans, and enter invoices for billing. The intern may also observe construction activities to learn about construction management procedures, assist staff with project management duties such as updating schedules with MS Project, preparing graphics, and managing digital files.

Requirements:

Must be available on a daily basis (Monday-Friday and possibly one or two Saturdays per month).

Desired Skills:

  • Ability and desire to work outdoor in various environments (riverine, wetland, forested), walk on uneven ground over obstacles, and conduct work at times of inclement weather.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills and the ability to articulate technical information
  • Ability to follow written and verbal directions and complete tasks in a given timeframe
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.
  • Basic knowledge of ArcGIS.
  • Strong technical and organizational skills.
  • Experience or interest in engineering, ecology and river systems, landscape architecture, planning, public policy, project management, or related fields.

To be qualified, you must be a college student currently enrolled. You will need to provide proof of enrollment.

Wage Information

Intern II:$16.59-$21.03
Students currently enrolled in undergraduate school.

Intern III: $18.68-$23.68
Students currently enrolled in graduate school.
