Math Syllabus
Course Objective:
In this course, we will build on and reinforce the mathematical concepts covered in sixth grade such as equations and inequalities, proportions and percents…We will also introduce new topics such as real numbers, graphing in the coordinate plane…
This is the second part of the Big Ideas Math Advanced series. This pathway allows students to complete the Common Core State Standards forgrades 6, 7, and 8 in two years. After completing this series, students will be ready for Algebra 1 in the eighth grade.
Materials needed:
- 2 notebooks or 1 multiple subject notebook (Composition or wired, no loose leaf paper)
- Pens, pencils, highlighter
- Graph paper
- Scientific Calculator
- Folder (distributed worksheets will be kept here)
- Jumbo textbook cover
Textbook: Advanced 2, Big Ideas Math 2014, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt.
Grading Policy:
Grades will be based on three parts as follows:
Homework: 40%
Tests: 30%
Quizzes: 15%
Projects: 10%
Effort and behavior: 5%
Please note:
- Tests and quizzes will be kept in class after being reviewed by the student. Parents are welcome to view them at anytime. Grades will be communicated to the parents via JupiterGrades.
Homework Policy:
- Homework will be assigned at the end of every section covered.
- It is imperative that it is completed before the next meeting.
- Late homework will be credited 50% of the total grade. On the due date, homework is corrected and solutions are provided. In the event a student is absent, he/she will be given a chance to make up the work, to be submitted the following meeting. Homework will be graded on a pass/fail basis.
- If a day is missed, it will be the student's responsibility to find out about assignments, and catch up with any missed material
Behavior and Conduct:
- Will account for 5% of the total grade.
- The school rules will be strictly enforced. Refer to handbook for details.
- I strongly emphasize that plagiarism will not be tolerated. Incidents of academic dishonesty will be reported to the administration.
