The Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools College Fair will take place on Monday, October 3 from 5-8 pm at the Benton Convention Center.
Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation awards 50 four-year $20,000 scholarships and 200 four-year $10,000 scholarships to current high school seniors who are US Citizens or permanent residents with a minimum GPA of 3.0. Applications must be submitted by October 31 of the Senior year. Go to www.coca-colascholars.org to apply.
Elks Most Valuable Student Scholarship applications are available in Guidance or online at www.elksorg/enf/scholars. Any high school senior who is a US citizen is eligible. Scholarship, leadership, extracurricular activities, community service, employment, and financial need are considered. Applications are due to Mrs. Alwine by November 22, 2011.
The NC State Centennial Scholarship awards up to ten $47,500 scholarships each year to students entering the College of Textiles at NC State who are interested in the fields of engineering, business management, chemistry, forensics, medical areas, international studies, design, apparel, sourcing, fashion, merchandising, or retail management. It is preferred that applicants apply to NC State by the October 15th early action date. Students who are not nominated but wish to be considered may request information about self-nomination.
The Dean Prim Scholarship provides college scholarships and travel opportunities to juniors and seniors. The recipients will participate in a summer travel and study program to China. A minimum of 3.0 GPA, good character, and participation in extracurricular activities is required. Recipients are also eligible to receive a renewable scholarship to pursue post-secondary education at accredited educational institutions. The online application is due by October 31st and is available at www.wsfoundation.org
The Ron Brown Scholar Program is a national program that awards scholarships to academically talented, highly motivated African-American high school seniors who intend to pursue undergraduate degrees full-time. Applicants must be US citizens or permanent residents who demonstrate leadership, commitment to public service, a desire to make a difference, and financial need. The deadline for the Ron Brown and other scholarship opportunities is November 1, 2011. The deadline for the Ron Brown only is January 9, 2012. You may access the application online at www.ronbrown.org or obtain an application in Guidance.
The Horatio Alger Association Scholarship will be awarded to a high school senior who is a US citizen with a GPA of 2.0 or better who demonstrates financial need. The applicant must be involved in extra-curricular activities, exhibit integrity and the ability to overcome adversity, and display a strong commitment to obtaining a bachelor’s degree. Apply online at www.horatioalger.com by the deadline of October 30, 2011.
Winston-Salem State University offers several scholarships to students applying by November 15, including a full scholarship covering tuition, room, and board to students with a 3.5 GPA and 1100 SAT (Critical Reading and Math). Go to www.wssu.edu to apply.
The Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE) announces its annual “Freedom in Academia” student essay contest. Seniors are invited to write an essay explaining why free speech and First Amendment rights are crucial to higher education. Scholarships of $1,000-$5,000 will be awarded. To enter, read the rules and instructions posted at www.thefire.org/contests. Deadline for submission is November 5, 2011.
UNC-Charlotte’s Levine Scholars Program seeks outstanding seniors who demonstrate a commitment to community service, hold an academic record that reflects a passion for knowledge, and possess a capacity for ethical leadership. There are no minimum SAT and GPA requirements but it is anticipated that successful candidates will have an unweighted GPA of 3.8-4.0 and score 1800-2400 on the SAT. See your guidance counselor by October 13 if you would like to be nominated for this scholarship.
The Gallery Collection is sponsoring its Annual Create-A-Greeting Card Scholarship Contest for high school students. The winner of the contest will receive a $10,000 cash scholarship and the winning student’s school will receive a $1,000 cash prize. Contest details are available online at www.gallerycollection.com/greeting-cards-scholarship.htm. Submission deadline is January 14, 20l2.
AXA Achievement Scholarship provides hundreds of scholarships nationwide from $2,000 to $25,000 to students who demonstrate ambition and drive, determination to set and reach goals, respect for self, family and community, and ability to succeed in college. Beginning October 17, go to www.axa-achievement.com to learn more and to download an application. Apply by December 2011 (deadline to be announced).
The Hispanic League Scholarship Program provides renewable scholarships to past and present Forsyth County ESL students of Hispanic origin. Applicants must be high school seniors planning to enter college in the fall. Recipients are chosen based on academic achievement and financial need. Applications may be accessed at www.scholarshipprograms.org. Deadline for submission is January 20, 2012. See website for more details.

The P.E.O. Star Scholarship is a $2500 scholarship for high school senior females attending an accredited post-secondary educational institution. Student must be a citizen or legal resident, and must exhibit leadership, extracurricular activities, and have an unweighted GPA of 3.0. Applications are available in Guidance and must be returned by November 15, 2011.
