Scholarship Eligibility Requirements and Instructions

  • Selection criteria used in awarding scholarships will be based on a combination of student achievements.
  • These scholarships are one-time awards and are not renewable. The scholarships will be paid to the individual winners and must be utilized for educational expenses during the 2017-2018 school year.
  • Monetary awards will be given after they have been accepted and registration verified at any accredited college, university, or vocational/technical school.
  • The applicant must have been a student in District 204 for a cumulative minimum of three (3) semesters prior to application.
  • Financial need isnot a consideration in the award of these scholarships.
  • Winners to be announced at the annual Green and Gold Awards Night on May 9, 2017.

A completed scholarship application packet should be submitted in the following order:

  • Personal Information Pages
  • Scholarship Application Page with Essay (if applicable)
  • Two Letters of Recommendation (at least one must come from a WVHS certified staff member-copies from college applications are acceptable)
  • Official 7th Semester Transcript (note: NOTrequired for IPPC scholarships)

Applicants, please note:

You only need to submit one personal information page, one set of recommendation letters,and one transcript if you are applying for scholarships from the following organizations:

WVHS Booster Club, IPPC, IPEF or WVHS PTA

Please be cognizant of any additional eligibility requirements and materials that may be needed for each individual scholarship you would like to be considered for and submit the appropriate materials. You may only win one of these scholarships. You may apply to as many or all of them if you like, but you are only allowed to take home the money for one.

Indian Prairie Parents’ Council (IPPC)Scholarship

Application/Essay

The Indian Prairie Parents’ Council (IPPC) will award two (2) types of scholarships this year.

_____ Dr. Gail McKinzie Scholarship (Education majors only) - 1 at $1,000

_____ University/College Vocational/Technical Scholarship - 2 at $500

Dr. Gail McKinzie Scholarship* - 1 at $1,000. Thisis awarded to a Waubonsie Valley senior who expects to major in the field of education in honor of long-serving District 204 Superintendent, Dr. Gail McKinzie. Dr. McKinzie served from 1995-2004.

University/College/Vocational/Technical Scholarship – 2 at $500 each. Thisis awarded to students who plan to attend a traditional four year institution, vocational institute, technical training program or junior college.

Please include an essay addressing one of the topics below in 500 words or less:

  1. Your most meaningful experience during your high school years. Reflect upon your ongoing commitments to an organization, area of study or sport, or a definingmoment.

OR

  1. Your future goals. If possible, include the type of career you plan to pursue when you finish your education. Also, include why you feel deserving of this scholarship; what might set you apart from the other applicants. (*Dr. Gail McKinzie Scholarship applicants must answer this question in order to be considered.)
