Homework

This course introduces many new concepts which build on each otherand it is very difficult to catch up if you fall behind. Use your time in class to get a good start on assignments and homework so that you have less to take home. If there is something you are unsure about ask for help right away.

Extra Help

Room 207 is always open at lunch and after school. Stop by any day to ask questions or work on assignments and homework. Do not wait until the day of the test to seek help!

Missed Tests and Labs

If you know you will be away for a test or lab please let me know ahead of time.

  • If youmiss a test due to illness, or any other legitimate reason, expect to write the testthe day you return to school.
  • If you miss a lab, make arrangements to complete it at lunch as soon as possible. You must make your own observations for each lab which means that you must perform the lab in person. Copying another student’s observations is consideredplagiarism.

Late Assignments and Labs

All assignments and labs are due on the date specified by the teacher. Any labs or assignments that are not handed in on the due date will have 5% of the mark deducted per day, up to one grade level. Once a class set of assignments has been marked and returned to the class, it is not fair to your classmates to accept the assignment.

Assessment and Evaluation

A variety of assessment and evaluation strategies will be used throughout the semester and together they reflect a balance between the four categories on the achievement chart for science.

  • Knowledge and Understanding. Subject-specific content acquired in each course,

and the comprehension of its meaning and significance

  • Thinking and Investigation. The use of critical and creative thinking skills and inquiry, research, and problem-solving skills
  • Communication. The conveying of meaning through various forms
  • Application. The use of knowledge and skills to make connections within and between various contexts
