Objectives:

3.Participants will be able to explain what they will accomplish during training and the skills and knowledge they should have by the end of the day.
4.Participants will be able to explain how and when they will meet objectives during training.
Activities:
  1. Introduction to SCCOOS. (5 min.)
  2. Welcome participants. (Ask them what they expect to learn about SCCOOS data and how they think they can use data to help them perform their duties.) (10 min.)
  3. Overview of training objectives.

Objectives:

1.Introduction to the type of information on the surface current and wave conditions Web pages and basic layout of web pages. (10 min.)
2.Participants use Web pages to complete worksheet. (15 min.)
3.Discussion of worksheet and how participants can see themselves using the Web pages to perform their duties. (10 min.) /

Objectives:
  1. Participants demonstrate the ability to access and interpret currents and wave data on LA/Long Beach Ports & Harbors Web page.
  2. Participants demonstrate the ability to access and interpret meteorological conditions data from SCCOOS Web page.
  3. Participants are able to describe how they can use the Web pages to perform their duties.
Activities:
  1. Introduction to the type of information on the LA/Long Beach Ports & Harbors Web page and the SCCOOS Meteorological Data Web page and basic layout of Web pages. (5 min.)
  2. Participants use Web pages to complete worksheets. (15 min.)

3.Discussion of worksheet and how participants can see themselves using the Web pages to perform their duties. (5 min.)

Objectives:
1.Participants demonstrate the ability to use surface current data, wave conditions data, and meteorological conditions data in oil spill response scenarios (one real-time and one past event).
2.Participants can use data in conjunction with Google Earth to determine how currents would transport oil from a spill.
3.Participants are able to describe how scenario and data on Web pages are applicable to their jobs.
Activities:
1.Participants use data from Web pages and Google Earth to complete scenarios. (35 min.)
2.Discussion of scenario and how participants can see themselves using the Web pages and Google Earth in similar situations. (10 min.) /

Topic: Search and Rescue Scenario

Objectives:

  2. Participants can use data in conjunction with Google Earth to determine where to look for people one hour after a helicopter goes down.
  3. Participants are able to describe how they can use the Web pages and Google Earth to perform their duties.

  1. Participants use Web pages and Google Earth to complete worksheet. (20 min.)
  2. Discussion of worksheet and how participants can see themselves using the Web pages and Google Earth to perform their duties.
