TITLE: HR Advisor – Search and Rescue Response

CHILD SAFEGUARDING:
Level 2: either the post holder will have access to personal data about children and/or young people as part of their work; or the post holder will be workingin a ‘regulated’ position (accountant, barrister, solicitor, legal executive); therefore a police check will be required (at ‘standard’ level in the UK or equivalent in other countries).
ROLE PURPOSE:
The role holder will:
·  Provide professional and administrative support to the Humanitarian HR Manager across the full range of HR processes within the response;
·  Be responsible for all pre-deployments processes and post deployments steps.
SCOPE OF ROLE:
Reports to: Humanitarian HR Manager, dotted line to Deputy Director SAR Response

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:
·  Responsible for ensuring all key roles for the response, on the Vessel and including the on-shore team, are filled. Work closely with the recruitment team to fill any vacant roles or rotations for planning purposes. Participate in interviews when needed.
·  Support the SAR response with developing and updating key HR policies/procedures/processes, and communicating changes to staff and line managers in the project (TOIL/Annual Leave, Per Diem etc)
·  Provide first level support to employees on day-to-day HR matters and advise line managers on the application of HR policies.
·  Be responsible for ensuring all pre-deployment processes including online and on-site trainings are carried out and be available (if necessary) for HR induction briefing for new starters.
·  Maintain up-to date trackers (pre-deployment and daily trackers)
·  Closely coordinate with SC Member Organizations (SCUK, SC Italy etc) on internal staff deployments and external media visitors in ensuring all are safe to deploy. Ensure all complete pre-deployment processes before travelling.
·  Be the first point of contact for HR matters relating to the response escalating issues to the Humanitarian HR manager as appropriate.
·  Responsible for maintaining accurate and up to date records and production of management reports, providing updates for the regular (weekly) Situation reports.
·  Be responsible for the completion of the on-boarding process including police checks for new starters; setting up new starter files; preparing and issuing contracts of employment and related correspondence; and updating the Response organogram on a monthly basis.
·  Prepare payroll changes summary for SAR staff, for sign-off by the HHR Manager.
·  As this is a Humanitarian emergency, the role holder may be expected to work outside the normal job description and be able to vary working hours accordingly.

QUALIFICATIONS
·  Graduate degree
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
Essential
·  Previous experience in an operational HR role, including the provision of first level employee relations support to managers and employees.
·  First rate organisational skills with a strong eye for detail and the ability to prioritise effectively whilst working to tight deadlines.
·  Ability and confidence to communicate appropriately with clients at all levels, both internally and externally
·  Able to work with minimum supervision, using tact, diplomacy and discretion.
·  Understanding of the nature and importance of confidentiality in an HR context.
·  Experience of working in a high pressure, fast paced environment, able to deal with and change in those contexts.
·  Excellent verbal/written communication skills, a clear understanding and awareness of HR processes including the importance of confidentiality.
Desirable
·  Experience of working in Humanitarian HR settings
·  Experience gained within either an international or NGO environment
