Sailing instructions

These are additions or changes to the General Club Sailing Instructions

1. Entries

The race is open to all classes of boat with an RYA recognised PN, plus West Kirby Stars, Hilbre Island OD's and Liverpool Bay Falcons.

2. Changes in Sailing Instructions

Any change to the sailing instructions will be posted at least 30 minutes before the warning signal of the race.

3. Signals before the Start of the Race

3.1. Signals ashore will be displayed on the flag-pole in front of the club-house.

3.2. Flag AP with two sounds (one sound when lowered) means the race is postponed: the warning signal will be made not less than 1 minute after AP is lowered.

5.3 Flag L with one sound means a change in sailing instructions, which will be displayed ashore at least 30 minutes before the warning signal.

4. Schedule of Races

There will be one Pursuit Race for all eligible competitors.

5. Start Times

The start times for each class will be displayed on the Notice Board and issued with the Sailing Instructions. The first class will start at 1030, or as soon as possible thereafter

6. Course details

6.1. The Committee Boat will be the West Kirby Ark

6.2. The course will be displayed on the side of the committee boat. The course may be a WKSC Tidal Course (card needs appending) or triangular course, which will be identified as course "X".

7. Starting Procedure

7.1. The Class Flag will be “W”

7.2. Races will be started using RRS Rule 26 for the first start and amended as follows:-

At the one minute signal the Preparatory flag will not be lowered. At the start of the first class the class number starting next will be shown on the side of the committee boat.

The preparatory flag will remain flying until the start of the last race. The intervals between starts will be as per the schedule handed out at the briefing and will vary according to each class’s handicap.

A boat shall not start later than ten minutes after her starting signal.

8. Finishing Procedures

8.1. The race will run for approximately 90 minutes from the start of the first class. 80 minutes after the first start one long sound signal will be made to warn competitors that only 10 minutes remain. At approximately 90 minutes:

1 sound signal will be made;

8.2. A finishing line will be laid ahead of the leading boat - The finishing line will be between a boat flying a blue flag and pink spherical buoy.

8.3. All boats are to continue sailing the course for the 90 minutes and complete the course sailed by the leading boat before passing through the finishing line.

8.4. Boats must pass through the finishing line in the direction from the last mark.

8.5. Any boat not finishing within 30 minutes of the first boat will be deemed to have retired.

9. Scoring

The first boat to cross the finishing line, in accordance with paragraph 11, will be the winner. The second boat to cross the line will be second and so on.

10. Prizes

The Jubilee Cup will be awarded to the winner of the race, at the annual prize-giving. If there are no finishers, the Jubilee Cup will not be awarded.

Jubilee Pursuit Course Card

Start:

Boats will start between the committee boat and an outer distance mark.

Lap1 and following odd numbered laps: Boats will sail to pass Mark 1 to Port, Mark 3 to Port and Mark 2 to Port and will then sail through the start/finish line as show on each lap.

Lap 2 and following even numbered laps: Boats will sail to pass Mark 1 to Port, and Mark 2 to port and will then sail through the start/finish line on each lap.

Finish Boats will sail to complete the lap and then through the start/finish line in the direction from the last mark to Finish.

The number of laps is not defined. Racing will continue until the course is shortened
