SANTIAGOPHYSICAL EDUCATION

RULES AND GRADING

Physical education is a required class during your Freshman and Sophomore years of high school (two year graduation requirement). Juniors and Seniors are encouraged to select physical education as an elective class. A variety of activities will help you develop fitness, sportsmanship, respect for yourself and others, sports skills, and values that support participation in physical fitness and sports.A spiral binder is required for tests and note-taking.

UNIFORM

  1. All P.E. students will be required to wear a P.E. uniform. Labeling with your name is recommended. (last name, first initial) and on back of shirt is recommended.
  2. Cost of uniform is $16(sm-xl) to $18(xxl).
  3. Checks should be made payable to SantiagoHigh School with the student name and ID number in the lower left corner of the check.
  4. Tennis shoes and socks are required daily. Points will be taken off for sandals, boots, slippers, flip-flops.
  5. DO NOT SHARE OR LOAN YOU UNIFORM TO ANOTHER STUDENT!
  6. DO NOT wear your school clothes to P.E. class or wear them under your PE uniform.
  7. ID card/ collateral will be required to use loaner clothes.They must be turned in daily.

LOCKS AND LOCKERS

  1. All P.E. students must purchase a Santiago P.E. lock. Locks are sold for $6.00.
  2. All P.E. students will be assigned a locker after a lock has been purchased.
  3. DO NOT SHARE YOU LOCKER WITH ANOTHER STUDENT!
  4. DO NOT GIVE ANYONE YOUR COMBINATION.
  5. Any lock that is not a Santiago P.E. lock will be cut off (student will have to replace it).
  6. Lock everything of value (i.e. purses, wallets, jewelry, money, iPods, phones, etc.) in your locker before leaving.Do not bring I-pods or cell phones to class, they will be taken away by teacher.
  7. Double check to be sure your lock is locked before leaving.
  8. Food and drink are not allowed in the locker room or in class. (except water)
  9. Showers are available. Please bring your own towel.
  10. Students shall not leave the P.E. area until the final bell rings for dismissal.

GRADING

Grading is determined by an accumulation of minus (-) points. Students will start with an “A” grade on the first day of class. Participation, effort, attendance, mile times, and various unit assignments will determine your final grade. Written make-up work is available to earn points taken off for excused absences. Points are taken off for the following reasons:

ABSENCE (excused)-written make-up work required to earn back points-3 points

NON-SUITS (not dressed in P.E. uniform)-6 points

NON-PARTICIPATION/POOR PARTICIPATION(daily jogs, activities) -1 to -5 points

UNEXCUSED TARDY (to locker room or roll call)-2 points

TRUANCY - 4 points

UNSATISFACTORY MILE TIME-1 to -5 points

Written tests, unit notes, fitness assignments+2 to -2 pts.

GRADE SCALE

Quarter Grade & Semester Grade (is averaged with previous quarter.) 100 points per quarter 100 to 90 points = 90% A

89 to 80 points =80% B

79 to 70 points= 70% C

69 to 60 points= 60% D

59 or less points= 50% F
