Information to Parents & Caregivers
Points to note:
- The programme below is for our middle and senior school students - Years 3, 4, 5 & 6.
- The swimming sports will be held at the Rotorua Aquatic Centre on Tarewa Road in Rotorua.
- Years 3 – 6 students need to be dropped off at the Aquatic Centre onthe dayto meet their teacher by 8:45am.
- Swimming sports will finish at approximately 2:30pm. Children need to be collected from the Aquatic Centre by 3:00pm at the latest.
- Children may come to swimming sports in their house colours, they may wear their bathing costumes under their clothes.
- Children will need – togs & towels, sunhat, sunblock, warm clothes, lunch & a drink.
- There will be no sausage sizzle at the swimming sports this year. Children need to bring their lunch and a drink.
- Should the event need to be cancelled this information will put on our website by 7:30am and a notification sent via Facebook, Twitter and the school phone app.
Timetable for the day:
8:45amChildren to be dropped off at Aquatic Centre. Students to wear house colours (togs underneath).
Teachers will take attendance register at 8.50am
All children to be in togs.
12:45pmLunch under trees in house groups – teachers & parents to supervise
2:20pmBus children to be changed & meet Mr Volschenk by the gate, children depart
by 2:30pm
2:30pmChildren dismissed - children to remain with class teacher until adult arrives
to collect them. No students allowed to leave the pool without an adult. All
students to be collected by 3pm from the Aquatic Centre.
Procedure for swimmers
- Events are called over sound system
- House teachers to ensure children go to starting area
- Swimmers walk in line to assembly area and line up by age group in houses.
- Swimmers taken to starting blocks
- Starter – Take your marks – Bang! (a whistle means false start).

Afterschool Care
If you child attends afterschool care at the following:
#Kids Central – your child will be picked up from the Rotorua Aquatic Centre by the van at 2:30pm
#Glenholme Afterschool Care - students will be collected from the Rotorua Aquatic Centre as long as you have confirmed with Maryanne to expect your child on Friday.
If your child attends any other provider for afterschool care, please ensure that arrangements have been made to collect your child at 2:30pm
#Bus Children- will be collected by Ritchies at the Rotorua Aquatic Centre at 2:30pm
*ALL Children need to be collected at 2:30pm and no later than 3:00pm
Novelty events
Boat races- 2 people from the house in a boat row to the other side of the pool (width). First one to touch other side wins.
Noodle soup- A whole lot of stuff gets thrown into the pool and the house is timed to retrieve ALL the stuff out of the pool. The house with the quickest time wins.
Doughnut race- Doughnut is in the pool. One child sits on it and the doughnut is pulled across the pool by the 10 pullers on one side. The next player hops on the doughnut and the doughnut is pulled across the pool and so on until all team has had a go. Participants - no more than 10 on one side of the pool and no more than 10 on the other side. They are the pullers. The children being pulled across are in a team of 8. Two from Year 6 and must be a girl and a boy. 2 from Year 5, Year 4 and Year 3. Must be a girl and boy at each year level.
Noodles- First team to get 20 little noodles across the water. Noodles must travel over one at a time and placed in a bucket. When swimmer places the noodle in the bucket the swimmer stands up on the edge and waves and the next swimmer starts. At least 2 Year 3s. 3 Year 4s and the rest of the team made up of Year 5 & 6s.
Kayak race. 1 person from the house in a kayak paddle to the other side of the pool (width). First one to touch other side wins.
